    "Betty Jane" repaint request...

I was wondering if one of the talented repaints here could paint the default FSX Acceleration P-51 as the "Betty Jane" Mustang currently flown by the Collings Foundation!

Here's my own pic also - thanks to anybody who takes on this request!

I might be wrong... but I never seen a B model amongst the FSX Acceleration craft... if there is one and you
can have it... I can surely do this repaint for you....

Thank you - I realize there isn't a B model amongst the default FSX Acceleration aircraft - it's a D model as my luck would have it.
I realize it wouldn't be historically accurate but it still it would be nice to have this repaint for the default FSX Acceleration P-51D aircraft. This repaint certainly would be appreciated!

I don't know whether you have seen my work... but it is very painstakingly done... accurately and with - I think - a good
bit of artistry... I would like to help you if you are willing to use a different model... I have several Bs that work fine in
CFS2 and can be easily done... Sincerely, I do rather professional work and it would be a waste of my time to spend it
"beating a dead horse" i.e. a Mustang that is totally inaccurate and can't be used by anybody else...
In other words... good work gone to waste when it can be spent on an accurate recreation...
I most certainly would do that livery for you on a good aircraft that works fine in CFS2...
If you are still interested... I can do it for you... just drop me a pm...

Would this one work? Found it on Simviation.

Excuse me for chiming in here, but if you aren't wedded to the B or to the "Betty Jane" in particular, there are several beautiful looking repaints for the A2A P-51D from the 31st FG.

They look to share the aluminum finish and tail and wing striping from the Betty Jane.

True, you would need to buy the A2A P-51. But, even without Accusim, it's practically a must for Mustang lovers. The Warbirdsim P-51 might have a repaint for the 31st FG as well...I don't know.

Anyway, just another route to consider.

Actually, thought of this too late. Warbirdsim actually makes a very nice looking B.

I don't know specifically why you prefer a freeware or default version. For the most part, I would share your preference.

But some of these recent payware products have really begun to change my mind. The level of detail that has been lavished on these planes is really pretty astounding.

it is a two seat version!!!
If I understand it correctly... you want a P-51B that can fly in CFS2... or am I wrong?

to have generated mass confusion... :isadizzy::isadizzy:
I think the quest is for a natural metal finish... and the model he has (payware) is done in extended bmp format with separate alpha reflective textures...
which of course... do not show well within the confines of CSF2 texture limits... thereby the need for a ad hoc repaint to show reflective metal rather than
dull gray (less actually) in CFS2. Our sim brother here is not probably very savvy of these facts, ergo his request for a repaint... as well as thinking a two-seater version could be
used... Correct me anyone is I am wrong... At any rate... if the requestor sends me a PM with exactly what he wants to accomplish... I repeat my offer to help...
    mmm..
re-reading all the exchanges... I think I got the wrong idea... correct me if I am still wrong...
The requestor wishes to use the aircraft in FSX it seems to me now.... (I confused requestors... for I am working on textures for someone who wants to fly a payware in CFS2)
and wants that specific livery... Now then.... the suggestion of a payware model of the B makes sense indeed...
Really, a freeware CFS2 B would be really re-inventing the wheel... begging everyone's pardon...
The solution is to have an FSX B model... and the matter is simpler now... changing the livery would be child's play and I renew my offer to help...
Again, my excuses for the confusion generated by myself...:isadizzy::isadizzy::isadizzy::isadizzy::isadizzy: :salute:

Looked around a bit and an came across a Betty Jane repaint for the A2A D over at LOF.

Again, payware. But available right now.

Jan Kees made a repaint of the original "Betty Jane" for the Warbirdsim P-51B/C: http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/...-m-betty-jane/

(The Collings Foundation TP-51C is a new-build aircraft, based on the data plate and paperwork of a P-51C wreck, and is painted to look like the original fighter-variant 31st FG P-51B that was named "Betty Jane" out of the interests of its original owner, Max Chapman (before it was sold to the Collings Foundation) - it seems some come away after being introduced to the aircraft believing it is the original "Betty Jane" based on what they are told, and/or thinking it is one of the original WWII two-seat modified examples, which it is not (all of those were done in the field, and in all different forms and manners, and each was quite 'crude' and nowhere near as refined as they made it with the example that flies today).)

Also, although not FSX, I made a repaint of "Betty Jane" for the FS2004 SkyUnlimited P-51B/C product back in 2007. It was the last repaint I made before getting into aircraft modeling, as I wanted a more accurate-looking P-51B/C to fly in FS: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...dcats=1&page=2

I've always loved the look of 31st FG Mustangs. Although not a P-51B/C, this is an example from Warbirdsim's "Little Friends II" (note the early 'shark tail', no dorsal fin fillet, configuration, which is just one of 100+ details in this model that sets it apart from later variants of the -D (including the unique early canopy form/shape, the lower-mounted armor plate, fabric elevators, a completely different instrument panel, an N-9 gun sight, circular instead of square gun camera port, etc...).

And another, the restored "February", in the form of a repaint for Warbirdsim's "Mustang Tales" (applied to a civilian-restored model with modern avionics and antennas (dual coms, transponder, nav radio, VOR), fitted just as they commonly are in an authentic restoration of recent years).

b24_witchcraft, when I understand you correctly, you want a 31FG repaint for the FSX acceleration Mustang. I have been looking at the usual places, but couldn't find a paintkit for this model. I think it is too much work for most of the repainters to create a full paintkit from scratch, just to make this one repaint. (at least it is for me)

When you want a B or C model P51 and are not willing spend any money on it, you could try the P51B/Cs from A.F. Scrub. You can find these at Flightsim.com. Just search for the files mustangp51b-c.zip, mustangp51b-c1.zip and mustangiii_fix.zip.
As I don't think these models support "shine" you will not be able to create (or find) any reflective textures for them.

When you really want to have a model from the aircraft you show in your picture, there is no other option than to spend a some money on the Warbirdsim P51B package and get the repaint done by JanKees. I can assure you that you won't regret the money spend on the model.

    Cheers,
    Huub

Huub - yes my original request was for "Betty Jane" for the FSX Acceleration Mustang.

John - the Warbirdsim repaints look great however money is really tight right now for me. Wish I could afford it or the A2A Mustangs.
Your "Flying Dutchman" P-51D repaint looks great would like to see it on the Wozza Mustang P-51D if at all possible.

B24_Witchcraft, is this what you had in mind for the "Flying Dutchman"? Its Wozza's FS9 model which ports over quite nice.

As said, it would be too much work to make a paintkit from zero, I found a basic paintkit at Gary J. Smith's site. Still work in progress and I'm definitely not as talented as Bomber_12th, but at least its free

    Cheers,
    Huub

I have uploaded the "Flying Dutchman" as a FS2004 skin. The textures will work in FSX as well and I have included a alternative prop texture for FSX, which should reduce the "port-over" transparency issue.

    Enjoy,
    Huub
