    Memorial Day

Here in the States, Memorial Day is fast approaching and will be upon us on Monday.

Given that, I want to say "thanks" to our veterans here at the Outhouse and remember our fallen fathers, brothers, sisters and comrades.

This video says it all better than I can.

Thank you, gentlemen, for the thoughts and statements.

During my 7-year hitch at the WNY, going to Arlington National Cemetery now and then helped put things in perspective, personally and professionally. If you have visited DC and not seen this institution, I can't recommend it enough. Be sure to budget enough time to go slowly and allow time for thought - and a "thank you.":salute:

Fort Sam Houston cemetery is here in SATX. When I used to be on Honor Guard, I performed quite a few funerals there. Words can't describe the experiences...

Yes, to serve as the Honor Guard for a fallen brother can bring tears to your eyes, even though you can't allow that to happen in front of those attending.

I've lost count of how many funerals I've attended as part of the PGR. I'm just glad that very few of them have been for KIA's. Every last one has been very emotional.

Well its Memorial Day..Again.!..A day with family.Hot Dogs Burgers...I would bet there is not one family who on this day does not remember a family member,a friend,or the neighbors kid....I'm sure many will be remembered..For so many did not come home. And of course they will always be kids who never grew up,had no family's, Their loss is our loss, the nations loss for what great man to be ,got killed then.?Some of our now very old think of WW1.Kids in stinking trenches of Europe...Many more think of the boys of WW2,Again in Europe, and then to include the hell of jungle war...Just when we thought we would spare another generation? Korea comes along.,A cruel war thousands of Kids gone there also...Nam,a war like no other..No longer the flags, patriotic songs ,the joys home comings. For many it was out right rejection! The sorrow for many families That their kid got killed in Nam.without even a thank you Ma'm!..Kids came home confused, asking themselves What did we do wrong...Then before ya knew it..More kids, getting killed in hot desserts..More kids with no legs ,arms, and lives Shattered!.It seems from Americas Beginnings each and every Generation has paid a terrible price for us to be what we are..Free..But And Yes, Each and all generations are America's Greatest!

Again there are evil forces in the world who still want to kill not only our our kids.but we in our homes,on our streets or at our work..This Making Memorial Day being constantly being add to with a never ending supply of boys, and girls..One should never doubt, that Americans,When asked to serve,do whats needed ,never have rejected our country.and never will.So lets Drink the beer, eat the burgers, have a Holiday,But lets not ever forget what this day really is..For countless millions its a day at some cemetery..and for those cemetery world over A day of tearful memories of loved ones gone for ever!..''Plato,the wisest of the philosophers said long ago.."Only The dead Have Seen The End Of War"

    Hey guys,

Many thanks to all those who presently or have, as Abraham Lincoln so succinctly put it, "given their last full measure of devotion" to keep our nation and its people free. :USA-flag:

    SALUTE! :salute:

Just don't say "Happy Memorial Day" to me, it's one of my pet peeves. If you want to celebrate, that's what the 4th of July is for. This is a day of remembrance.

One of my old camrades, a 173 Airborne and SF trooper, sent me this link. It's well worth the watch.

    Unhappy Reply...

    Hey guys,

It has come to my attention by a member who respectfully sent me a PM to discuss their issue that my comments about saying "Happy Memorial Day" may have rubbed people the wrong way. This was not aimed at anyone at SOH, and God knows it was NOT meant at anyone who has served in the Armed Forces of the United States (or any other nation, for that matter), and my apologies if anyone happened to take it that way. I was not offended, nor was it my intent to scold or shame anyone.

It was not an attempt at flag-waving, in fact I saw it as a show of support and respect for those who have served instead of it turning into just another holiday where we have a day off from work and use it as another excuse to eat. Here in Massachusetts, Memorial Day has become almost a joke of its true meaning...it's the first weekend of major-league Cape traffic and Monday is when many people clog up the roads on their way home from the Cape. This "marginalizing" of what should be a day of remembrance is what gets under my skin.

Lord knows, it was not an attempt to slander, scold, or otherwise marginalize anyone here at SOH. You have my most profound apologies if that was its effect.

    Sincerely and respectfully,
    "Rami"
