    Important news for FSUIPC users

Sorry to just do a pretty much cut and paste from my news article at sF (http://www.simflight.com/2013/05/05/...-fsuipc-users/), but it's the easiest way to do this... I'm also cross posting it to P3D and FSX, because it affects everyone that uses the tool, regardless of version...

    -- --

Due to a breach in the security of the GlobalSign certificate used to confirm that FSUIPC is a valid and safe package, the certificate is being revoked. This will require ALL users of the software – whether registered or otherwise and using FSUIPC3 or FSUIPC4 – to need to download and install new versions.

Full details are available by visiting Pete Dowson’s post (http://forum.simflight.com/topic/743...-user-systems/) on his support forum at simFlight. Download links are available at simFlight; (http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/), or Schiratti.com; (http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html). For a short time, the following direct links to FSUIPC3 (3.999z2 - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...UIPC3999z2.zip) and FSUIPC4 (4.90 - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/..._FSUIPC490.zip) at Dropbox are also live.

Please note that this is not a security breach within FSUIPC itself – it is only the security certificate that has been compromised.

If you aren’t sure what FSUIPC is, or whether you have it, full details can be found on the product pages at simMarket (http://secure.simmarket.com/pete-dowson.mhtml) and it can be found within your Flight Simulator 9/modules, Microsoft Flight Simulator X/modules or Prepar3D/modules folder. If you have a file entitled “FSUIPCx.dll” (x is dependant on the FS version) then you need to update, in order for FSUIPC to keep working.

    -- --

All that's going to happen if you don't upgrade is that FSUIPC will stop working. As it's usually doing something fairly important to be there, however, it's probably worth updating!

    Cheers,

    Ian P.

After careful reading (just to be sure I didn't misinterpret anything) it sounds like the affected module is titled: FSUIPCx.dll. (If you have a file in the modules folder entitled “FSUIPCx.dll” (x is dependent on the FS version) then you need to update, in order for FSUIPC to keep working.

Upon examination, the module in question I have in my FS9 modules folder is "FSUIPC.dll" Version 8... it's an un-registered version. So am I to think that the "FSUIPC.dll" module is unaffected by all of this latest excitement? That the only FSUIPC modules that need to be updated are ones having the specific character after the FSUIPC module name as described above....? Sorry, but this sounds a bit confusing to me.....:isadizzy: If someone has a better handle on the jist of this whole thing and would like to take the time to clear the air a little, I'd be grateful.

"x is dependent" also means that the "x" may not be present.

As per the rest of Pete's statement, yes, you do need to update - the same as all FS9, FSX or P3D users do. Sorry!

Taking this topic to heart I fetched the 3.999 version but when I tried to install it I got an error that something was using it and could not proceed. I had turned off everything I could think of and wondered if this was some of the evil doings referred to in the original alert or just a program I missed. After starting XP in Safe Mode, the installation proceeded normally and FS seems to be working properly, as it did before. May I therefore assume that the installation overwrote the old one?

You can check the version of the dll in your /modules/ folder by going to its properties, aeromed. If it is 3.999z2 then you're sorted.

I wish the installer was adjustable, it only looks for one copy FS9. Some of us have several so I hope just copying the dll to the other installs will suffice.

Terry, That's what I've always done on each update. Works fine. Make sure you copy/paste ALL files with FSUIPC in their name.

Thanks Ian, looks like running the installer in Safe Mode put the new files in the right place.
