    Amen

Cometh the hour, cometh the man

to bad that in this age of celebrity you need to go searching for such inspirational "real life" stories ...

RIP Captain Ed Freeman, USAF. Job well done sir.

And after checking the flag status in DC there is absolutely no mention of the flag being flown half staff over the Capitol Building for a deceased MOH winner.

Now I ask how sad is that? Thank you SC.

God's speed on your final flight sir. I hope it's an Air Cavalry Huey that you travel to Saint Peter's Gate in. Of course a stop at Fiddler's Green to visit with all the cavalrymen preceding you is mandatory on your way to the Promised Land. First Cavalry, Second Cavalry, Seventh Cavalry, 17th Cavalry; they're all there awaiting.

Halfway down the trail to Hell,
    In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped,
    Near a good old-time canteen.
    And this eternal resting place
    Is known as Fiddlers' Green.

Marching past, straight through to Hell
    The Infantry are seen.
    Accompanied by the Engineers,
    Artillery and Marines,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
    Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.

Though some go curving down the trail
    To seek a warmer scene.
No trooper ever gets to Hell
    Ere he's emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
    With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

And so when man and horse go down
    Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee
    You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
    Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
    And go to Fiddlers' Green.
    Keep your airspeed up,

    Broke My Own Rule....

Capt Freeman passed away in 2008 - had I remembered to check with Snopes before posting, a bit of internal outrage could have been avoided.

However, this does NOT diminish his accomplishments - and we must honor him regardless.

    Sorry for the unintentional mis-direction

His actions were highlighted in the movie "We Were Soldiers": On November 14, 1965, in the Ia Drang Valley of Vietnam, in a small clearing called Landing Zone X-Ray, Lieutenant Colonel Hal Moore and 400 troopers from the U.S. 7th Air Cavalry are surrounded by 2000 enemy soldiers in what would become the first, and perhaps the worst, major battle of the Vietnam War.

He was one tenacious chopper pilot.
