Thread: Just finished a new 2D panel for the Storch..

G, I've still got to finish a few exterior bits and pieces, and then the cockpit and VC, then the texs...so a while longer...and of course you will be one of the first to get a shiney new copy of it when its' done, the very least I can do.

The exterior texs you see are just trials, to see what looks good.

I think that is just about right, a nice bit of weathering to give it that used feel, also like the added controls and runs on the fuselage walls.

I expect you could go on adding, but personally it looks as if it's just about there.....

yes... I think the additions I've made give it a more balanced view... before it was sort of empty on the left side... now
I think it is OK... Trying to figure out how to save it in other than bmp (it is about 4 megs)... Wright's DXT program... does not allow
an oblong aspect ratio... I am trying different tricks... to be able to keep the 64 million colors and save space...
Actually at 256 colors it looks pretty good......
Let you know what happens soon...

That is a strange thing with DXTBmp, but you can save directly as a 24 bit file from the PS or PSP, which will keep the aspect ratio, but unfortunately will not reduce the file size by much.

My posts of your panel are all 256 colours, and they look good here and in the sims......

    Cheers

In any event... I will experiment ... maybe I can find some way to work around the problem of a 1 meg file at 256...
I've done that eventually to save space in my sim with other textures. I was just thinking... if you send me wireframe
mappings... I can use them to work out and test some nice scheme for the exteriors (for my own use).... That Russian Wings Palette
has very nice profiles... to inspire an interesting scheme...(either Mediterranean or Norway based birds)...

As said, no where near the texturing stage yet, but when I do........

Here are the old Alphasim He115 texs, have a play with those. I will be using the layout of the original tail, fuselage and wings texs, but the engines, nose and crew will be different, so I've not included them.

    Gaucho_59,

The work you're doing for the Heinkel He-115 is nothing short of spectacular. What else can I say?

Do you have this old Alphasim He 115?... I can't find it anywhere... I am anxious to try out
the textures I am working on.... btw.. I doubled their size so as to have lots of detail... can
the sim support that... or should they be reduced to the original size you sent.
Here is an example... the tail fin texture...
No weathering , exhausts and gunfire stains, etc. yet... but is sure looks like it can be worked with...

Started weathering the wings... I think it is going to look pretty good when finished.... can't wait to test the
textures on the sim... whenever I get the whole plane

Probably will have to do another engines tex... 'cause you said it is different...
but this is a good dry run... the tail can probably be used (with any livery... it is in layers)

I picked up this plate also.. and am definitely planning to do this British livery! There are a few others by the same artist that are very tempting...
I can't hardly wait myself for Shessy's upgraded model...

Man, I got a copy of the old Alphasim ... and it is really a shame that it is such an old one...
it really has a lot of faulty things... like paper thin float supports... and the access ladder from
the floats does not have any volume at all... same for the canopy greenhouse... Nonetheless,
the redone textures show rather nice (reduced the to the size of the originals.. and still show detail)
Do I understand right that redone model you are working on "cures" some of these defects?

Some interesting, and very nice, panels there G.

There are quite a few Stearman models already, any in particular you were thinking of?

Looks like a pretty sophisticated model... got to load it up and try it...
Would like to do some US pre or early WW2 Navy livery...
How is the He 115 coming along? I guess it's not 'Xmas yet.... :isadizzy:

Enlighten me... are you creating a new model?... from scratch...
or is it a mod of that primitive Alpha one?
Again... I wish I had your expertise.... mmm

This is a total revamp/modification of the old Alphasim He115. The old model just had a not bad shape profile, absolutely nothing inside but a basic pilot's head, nothing opened, no bomb bay, multi-LOD, VC or 2D cockpit (that's where you come in!).

So a good basic starting point, but a lot to do.

    Cheers

I think you have got a winner under wing... well worth waiting for... there is no other model of the 115!
Make sure you map interior surfaces... I will make it worth YOUR while... :salute:

Keep encouraging Shessi... his work is really changing that model... especially adding volume to
those parts that were so primitive... like the float supports and the greenhouse framework...
