The Beaufighter has rockets that are AP (armor piercing) and SAP. Any idea what the S stands for?

Solid Armour Piercing, ie no explosives in the warhead. I saw one of these next to the Beaufighter TF.X at Hendon a couple of years ago. It was found especially for anti-shipping that a solid-headed rocket striking a merchant ship below the waterline could do as much damage as its high explosive counterpart. They were also cheaper to make.

Interesting, you'd think would be better off tearing a big hole with a bang; yet wouldn't want to stand in front of a solid, either!
