More progress in the VC...fuel tank installed, forward stiffener stringers installed, and the cover that closes off the aft fuselage is done. I also went back and rounded off a lot of edges on my sheet metal parts. The turnbuckles were modeled straight from one I had in my hand at the time.

Lookin good Robert! I bet she will be a blast to fly. She's definitely one of those planes that looks fast just sitting on the ground.

Here's the controls going in. The aileron linkage is working, and I started roughing in the flap handle.

    Here's a more complete linkage...

This week I got the flaps & ailerons cut in and animated, and all of the wing parts mapped. Tonight I'm working on laying out the rivet lines for the wing textures. I might get to a point where there is something to show later tonight, sometime over the weekend for sure.

I have been focused on the fuselage this week. Exhaust pipes have been installed, new spinner, and I cut in the lower cowl inlet. Prior to the initial texture mapping on the fuselage I did a lot of tweaking to the mesh. Here's the first go at mapping and panel lines...

It's still looking small, fast, and fun. I can't wait to see it finished and also see the paint schemes everyone else puts on it. It's going to make a nice canvas.

It does look like a re-painters choice, for some nostalgic schemes!

Looks great & can hardly wait to fly it! I always liked small sport planes long those lines. I was always a big fan of the Laser 200 and the Midget Mustang. They just look like a lot of fun. I used to have an RC Laser 200 and a several aerobatic RC models including a Sig Cougar that I rebuilt/modified into a tail dragger after it crashed on a previous flight. I clipped the wings shorter, added larger ailerons and a slightly larger elevator surface. I overpowered it with a Webra 61 with a tuned pipe. I would launch it going full throttle with the back of my legs holding the horizontal stab & then stepping back letting it go. I swear it would go 10 to 15 feet and get airborne followed by a nearly vertical climb! Anyhow, I hadn't remembered those long ago days until just now looking at this model.

I have done a lot of work on the tail feathers, and after getting them mapped I am able to start playing with paint schemes. This is a test of an idea that I think I like...just need to tweak the curves on the trim.

ambiant occlusion maybe? mm...did I spell that right? lol...long day

  20. #45
The materials are currently very basic...no real spec layer, no reflections, no bump map. I also had self shadows turned off on those pics. It will look better when the materials are complete.

One more at the end of the day...I cleaned up the trim and added the registration. The cruise speed required 12" numbers per current regulations.

Thats a cool looking plane you have there
You take it easy.. and have a nice day

  24. #49
Looking real good indeed, even without the correct material settings.
Don't forget to give it some good ambiant occlusion effect
