    my latest project

sorry, this is not sim related.

    some may have noticed
that the 196 has been on hold
for the past month or so.

    actually, it hasn't been.
i've been working on it in my spare time.
unfortunately, there hasn't been much spare time.

i'm sure you all know about honey do's.
well, this one is a milo do.
it's been in the planning stage for several years.
the framing rot had gotten progressively worse
so, the time had come to take action
    before someone got hurt.

demolition started the first week of October
and i finally laid down the last plank an hour ago.

yes, there is still clean up to do,
    but that doesn't count.

    just to put into perspective,
    the length is 50 feet,
the width is 10 feet, post to post.
it is 8 feet off the ground,
which made demolition a bit dicey.
a few times, it was down right scary.

fortunately, other than a few aches and pains,
    there were no mishaps...
    AND IT'S DONE!!!

this is a very big deal for me.
i rarely finish any project i start.
    sometimes the magic works.
    sometimes it doesn't.

    WOW Dude,
That looks great, I am assumimg my stool should be done in a red oak flavor and placed next to the beer keg ( not shown in picture ).
Of course the top will be engraved, " reserverd for No Dice".

    Great Job,

Now lets get back to the AR196 before the world comes to an end.

    oak, shmoak...
    be it red or white,
    everybody uses oak.

    how about ash?
the grain pattern is much like oak,
    but the lighter color
    would give a nice contrast.
    even after a few months
    when the deck grays up.

don't know about a beer keg.
it takes a lot to keep it cold
    and there are not enough
people around to drink it all.
hate to see it go to waste.
there are a couple coolers, though.

worked on the 196 this morning.

    Really nice job smilo

Am I to understand that you only had to do the floor? The railings appears to be older.
Nice color btw; it keeps the grain of the wood visible.

From what I can see of the background, it must be a pretty humid environment. Muss everywhere!

The posts on the right are supporting some kind of a roof? I wish I could be there, sipping a beer in your company while sitting in a rocking chair, smelling the surrounding woods after rain.

    Lucky dog!:ernae:
Torture numbers and they'll say anything.

    Oh God Hubba,
I wish you would never have asked about the floor only !
Now we are going to hear about the entire install project,
That will take hours to type and even longer to read.

Please trust me on this, just say great job, looks great,
love it ....whatever....or I will be waiting on this Ar196
    until the world ends.

    LOL

    Beautiful Job Smilo,

Just for scale, my HOUSE isn't 50 feet long.
It is more like 30 feet x 30 feet, so you just laid enough flooring for my entire house.
    Pretty finish on the flooring.

It sure would be cool for the bunch of us to be all in the same place at the same time.
I'll take Iced Tea or a cold soda instead of beer though....

    My projects are much smaller.

Today it was figuring out how to put pressure on the back of the touch screen buttons on our stove so that the oven would work for Thanksgiving.
There isn't anything to attach it to.
The factory tech fixed it by shimming with cardboard which "fixed" it to just past the warranty period.
Last year, I tried a "fix" with some very sticky tape which only lasted a few months.

I finally fixed it today with 1/16 x 1/2 inch strip aluminum bent into a spring against a cover.
It is held in place by snapping into place under a round cover.
Short of an earthquake (which we haven't had for a couple years) it should stay put.

    - Ivan.

    okay Dave,
    this is for you...

the posts to the right support the eves,
which end 8 feet out from the wall.
makes a nice, dry walkway around the house,
which, by the way, is 40x40,
with a 12x20 sun room around front.

the outside posts, rails and balisters
were not replaced. they're still good.
besides, i ran short of funds to replace them.

there is no finish on the "floor".
    that's rain. looks nice, though.
unfortunately, it will not stay that way.
it will turn gray in a few months.
i am not prepared to put on a finish,
not to mention, i don't want to deal
with it every year....too much work.

    you are absolutely correct, H.
it is very humid around here.
the rainy season started a few weeks ago.
the thing is, the temperature has also dropped.
it's a bit chilly for sitting outside drinkin' beers.
if you all don't mind, i'll be sitting under the eves,
drinking a cup of strong coffee,
wearing my coat, gloves and stocking cap.
and yes, sir, i'll bring the rocker out for you.

i like the idea of us gathering together.
iv'e been fortunate to have, actually,
met a few of my online friends.
    it is interesting and fun
to meet the people behind the posts.
too bad the distances are so far
and the transportation cost are so high.

.....there, Dave, that wasn't so bad,
    was it?

i'm off to put in a few hours in on the 196
before we head out to the inlaws for dinner
and my specialty, garlic, mashed potatoes.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
even to my Canadian friends who had it last month
and to those of you in the rest of the world.
you don't know what you're missing.

Thanks for keeping that short smilo,

Can someone give me an "A" Then an "R" :greenf: Now a "196"

No Beer Cooler? Now I know why that deck took so long. We primates in the south
figured that out long ago, Free beer 50 helpers, no beer no help.

    The deck looks great.

i guess you missed this line, huh?

i think i said, no to the keg.
    unless there's enough folks
    here to put it away.
i like left overs, but not beer.

sorry, i guess i'm an old fuddy duddy.
i would rather have no help,
    than a bunch of drunks
slopping all over my deck job.
i have enough trouble keeping myself on task.
i don't have the time or energy
    to waste, herding cats.

    the 196?......she's oooooh soooo close.

For a Keg of ice cold "Bud" I travel with tools and all.

For the other kind of " Bud" which I think is now legal in
your state, I travel with tools and 5 helpers along with
    many bags of potatoe chips.

    LOL

    for special occasions,
i've been known to bring home a keg
    from the Port Townsend Brewery.
at the risk of sounding uppity,
the local brew beats the national
    every time...hands down.
    besides, we're supporting local.

    better leave the 5 helpers.
only an oz will be legal
and we still can't grow our own...

    which is all moot.
i've got a cdl and random drug tests are a stark reality.
a while back, i had two in a week.
    now, that's random.?.?.?
