My condolences Cees, I stood that watch six years ago myself, so I know what you are feeling. At least you dad, like mine, was with family so when he takes his leave he'll know he's loved.

My 9 siblings, other family and friends, were on this watch with my Dad 20 years ago last month. It is never easy but certainly a sobering part of the life cycle we all will experience.
May peace and happiness follow you and the family as you each carry his memory close in your hearts and minds.
I stood that watch seven years ago with my sister. Gods speed and all graces to you and your father Cees.. Your in my thoughts and prayers..

My watch with my father was 18 months ago, I share your grief Cees. God bless you and your family in this terrible time.
Cees, count me as another Outhouse brother who will be keeping your father, you, and all your family in my intercessory prayers. Both my parents died back in 1993.

Sterkte,
Huub
My best wishes go to you and your family!

Sorry to hear of this Cees.
I went through this with my dad 4 years ago.
Someone told me, "he is in a better place now"
That helped a lot.
Take care.
Dag Cees,
Ook ik heb dit al meegemaakt, en Huub weet het goed te zeggen.
Zo is 't precies. Veel sterkte gewenst,
Rob

Cees,
It was 14 months ago I held a similar vigil with my father... I know it's a tough time, but you can rest assured he will go to a better rest than he could ever have here. You have my condolences.
Mike Z.
Stay strong Cees. I lost my father on Armistice day 2009; an easy date to remember. He was a good man and a good example and when I think about him it's almost as if he were still with us. I hope you will be able to do the same.

You and your family have my prayers this night as well. Stand beside your father this night, in his final hours, and let him know that it is alright for him to lay down his burdens and to leave this world. Let him know that he did a wonderful job as a father, dad, and provider and that you are proud to be his son and to carry on with the family name. Sometimes, a person will fight to remain in this world if they feel there is something that needs to be done, someone who needs to be looked after. Assure him that he had done his job well, that those he loves will be okay.
I was not able to be by my father's side at the time of his passing....a fact that I regret still today, 17 years after his passing. But I was able to be there for my father-in-law in his final hours.....he was a great dad to his three girls....one being my wife and another being my closest friend (after my wife of course).

My hero is gone. Dad left us yesterday at 6.25 in the morning. He is in peace now. It could see it by watching his face, which was almost smiling.
Bless you all for the kind words and the prayers.

Cees, I just found this thread - deepest condolences and my prayers are with you and your family. You made my dad and I very happy when you created his airbase Polebrook 7 years ago and we became good friends. Chuck
My deepest condolences to you Cees and your family. You'll have good memories of your father. It was so good that you were with your father keeping vigil up to the end - he would have appreciated that very much, having you close to him to support him and staying with him through the final stage of his life journey until it was time to let go.
