    Alaska Release

Must be very soon (Sorry to use the 's' word ).
Noticed as I finished up my very last Hawaii mission, I had acquired a few more Achievements to gain in my Pilot Profile and on my Windows Game Live page, all of them in Alaska.
    (Towards bottom of my page...)

Guessing it'll be this week sometime.
Like most accidents, I am curious to see what'll happen.

Yeah no reason to get excited, unless you want to go hiking there.

I went out on a whim and picked it up, just not that overly impressed. I would have liked to have at least seen some aircraft parked at some of the airports and maybe some other eye candy to look at, scenery looks pretty good though. No cockpit on the cub, meh. I think I would have rather bought another airport for my ORBX collection! Just glad it didn't cost to much.

Small price, downloading now. Let's see if it can keep me interested!

Lake Hood is a big disappointment

The overall feel and look of the scenery seem quite good from the shots. Especially the glaciers and ice. How are the airports, detail wise? Are there any peculiar bush strips to land?

Yet another airplane that was built months ago, and planned from the beginning to be "BASIC..."

I fully expect that over time, interior models to upgrade existing "BASIC" to "DELUXE" will become available.

And how does your inside information change my opinion that 'Basic' aircraft are rather pointless to operate in a game that's main premise is to open the world of flying to interest folks in aviation, by providing an immersive experience, when there is no ability to operate said aircraft from the immersive environment of a virtual cockpit?

    Yeah, you're right. It doesn't.

Right now I am just Mauling my way through Alaska. Not a bad plane. Still, I need them tundra tires!

I have no "inside information" at all, but am simply making an educated guess.

Also, I freely agree that these BASIC aircraft are a complete waste of space and a really bad joke!

I think they should release all planes as Basic models but give them away free then charge to upgrade them to Deluxe models.

This silly 'Basic/Deluxe' scheme really says it all about Flight, doesn't it.

We have been flying 'Deluxe' virtual airplanes ever since the great Bruce Artwick gave us FS about 27 years ago. Ok, no VC yet but atleast we had a 2D panel with instruments to fly with. MS is taking the mickey out of us serious flightsimmers with this 'Deluxe' crap. There's nothing 'Deluxe' about a virtual aircraft having a cockpit. That's how they always come because that's where you fly it from.

( I wonder when MS will join the (real) car business. Sell nice looking cars for a very nice price but without the engine. When you go complaining about it they tell you that you have bought the 'Basic' model and that you are supposed to ask friends or family to push you around. It says so in the small lettering at the bottom of the contract. Perfectly normal and saves the environment. If you don't like that you can wait for the 'Deluxe' model which will come with an engine. Will take atleast another 2 years to be available though. If you do go with the 'Basic' model and run out of friends and family they'll have some nice packages on offer. )

I have been watching the great 'Flying Wild Alaska' series on Discovery a second time around in hopeful anticipation of the Alaska add-on for MSFlight. Bad idea... Very bad idea... I sure didn't expect a virtual Jim, Ferno or Ariel Tweto to come and greet me after my first landing at Unalakleet but i didn't expect to be so heavily dissapointed neither. Then again, what's to expect of 15 bucks.... not even a good bottle of 'young jeneva' and that's what i need right now. IMHO the Flight Hawaii islands look ten times better than this....

And the cockpitless Carbon Cub is a slap in the face as far as i'm concerned.

Too bad, MSFlight has so much potential. What a waste....

    Well done,MS !

That is my main gripe about Flight, a wasted potential. The first time I fired up Flight I actually could see a very bright future for this kind of sim. Nice and smooth graphics, improved sceneries, seat of the pants flying, fun missions etc. Thinking of what kind of assets MS has, I though they actually would have released tens of planes by now, with all the bells and whistles. And I honestly believe they would have been selling like hot cakes, especially when DLCs seem to be very reasonable priced. But no. I don't know what they are thinking. With steady flow of new stuff, they would have easily hooked people, and probably made some $$$, which I thought was the whole point of DLC-based sim.

Unless and until a "Deluxe" version is made available, I'll continue to refer to this as the "Cartoon Cub." Were I the owner of the company manufacturing the Carbon Cub, I'd never have granted a license to MSGS to release this at all...
