Some passings hurt more than others. For me, this hurts a lot. Bless you, Levon. For me, the very definition of American Soul:

I did very much like his American folksy type singing voice, as far as I know Levon is a modification of his real name.....RIP
R.I.P. Levon. Thanks for the music.

Very sad to hear about Levon Helm's passing. Way too young and from a disease that litterally took his unique voice. One of my absolute music heroes, a wicked drummer and an amazing vocalist (litterally) at the same time, like on this track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvijfZp3_eU

It may very well be that 'The Band' is the record i have played most after it had been released. When one side had ended it was impossible not to flip it over to the other side. Over and over again. At one point i thought i saw the needle had found it's way thru to the other side..
If you by any chance haven't seen "Classic Albums: The Band" yet, here's your chance (5 parts): http://youtu.be/yIDpG5hozto
Without Levon and The Band i would've possibly be a different person/musician.
Levon is now united again with Richard and Rick up there. Play on you wonderful musicians !
cheers,

ONe of my favs, THE NIGHT THEY DROVE OLD DIXIE DOWN and ROCKING CHAIR....sad to hear of his passing.
"Hornets by mandate, Tomcats by choice!"
Talking about my favorite band of the past 43 years, here is "Rockin' Chair" Odie mentioned. I love this song and I think it is a very appropriate one for this grey and rainy day. Richard, Rick, Robbie and Levon singing together (and Garth's beautiful accordeon-playing, embracing the three who have gone and the two still who are still here). Instead of drums Levon plays the mandolin here.

and they all rode horses-that is all but one.

One of the great ones that's for sure. The Last Waltz was the first DVD I purchased and I must have watched it a hundred times. The Band's music is as earthy and eternal as dirt. When people like Eric Clapton want to join your band, you know you have something special. As a Canuck we always say they were Canadian but in truth The Band and Levon's voices and songs are universal and belong to us all. What a wonderful gift! Thank you Levon.
