    CS Weapons for FSX problems

    I bought and downloaded Captain Sim Weapons for FSX (CSW) and installed it according to the CSW manual. However I can't get it work.

    I have FSX Acceleration so CSW uses as default aircraft the default FA-18 (CSW version is CS_FA-18). In the gauges folder there are two files CSWeapon.dll (shouldn't it be gau or cab not dll?) and CSWeapon_panel.cab used in the CS_FA-18 panel.cfg

    Problems:

    First when I load the CS_FA-18 plane the HUD of the aircraft (both 2D and 3D) remains empty. There is nothing on the HUD glass and there comes nothing in spite of what I try to do. Yes, I have swiched on the electricity (gauges light ok) and avionics, but on the HUD there is still nothing. Any text doesn't appear on the HUD.

    Secondly by shift+1 I can show or hide the CSW panel. There I can change the following swiches: master, weapon select, air-surface, HUD modes and RDR range but nothing else. There is loaded no rounds for weapons. The displays shows 0000 and stays like that. I have no ammunition to use and don't know how to add them.

    I have read the manual a couple of times, but found no help from there.

    i have this, but like you still a bit in the dark . And found no real tech help, and while asking a question on there forum i was told that question is answered in the manual or won't be re-answered on the forums . shift+2 brings up the panel . From there turn on master switch . Each weapon should show amount of ammo (rockets 120). The bombs, I have not figured out yet as I get INOP ( I think means, in operable). I got to frustrated at the AA, and gave up . The rockets and guns are the best part of this program .

    I also contacted the support and they gave me the same answer "look at the manual". Where I haven't found any answer because I have done everything according to the manual and still don't work. I stored the information as text that the install program gives and looked through every folder it puts something and those things shoul be in their proper places. The panel shows up but no ammo and the HUD stays empty (totally).

    I hope this isn't one of the cases this Windows 7's protections prevents the program's installation partly? However even turning off UAC before install didn't change anything.

    Edit: Btw. the manual says that the install program asks the order # - mine didn't ever ask anything? Also the name of the install program (csw001_1000.exe) is different from the one in the manual (csb521_XX00.exe). However this propably is due to some version change?

    Does this install program put any executable file into Windows system folders (Windows, System32 and SysWOW64)? Those cases might cause seeds for problems. The install programs output didn't show any but you never know (grrrr... I'd rather install everything manually).

    I reinstalled the weapons pak after some FSX problems . So heres what I did . I had backed up the installer and order nuber after purchase on disk . Clicked on installer, and it asked for the order number . After order number was approved, it installed in my FSX folder . I run windows 7 64.

    The problems I had after purchase was I was never issued a Order number ( purchased from simmarket). I emailed captainsim and suprisingly they did reply with a order number. Everything didn't work out so well as I had a corupted installer . After new download it worked . After the first feasko of installing it i found out much about this program . Pretty much no support, and it does not work with all aircraft as advertized . The main reason I wanted this was for the wilco harrier. But come to find out the weapons pack disagrees with the fupic program, which a few aircraft need .

    Is the name of your installer "csw001_1000.exe" or "csb521_XX00.exe" the (earlier?) one mentioned in the manual?

    I downloaded the installer 3 times (first december 2011 - I ordered this addon from CS sale and got frustrated not getting it work nor having any help from the CS support) and then twice in 2012 (last a week ago). All ware named "csw001_1000.exe" and didn't ask any order#. I don't believe that all those 3 downloads could be corrupted. Neither did any installation give any error message.

    To get these installers I had to go to CS support pages and there the order# was asked. I was issued the order number right after the purchase in an EMail CS sent me.

    I found out why the WfFSX wont work. The "key word" actually was in my text above. While installing the program there never appear this activation window in my Windows 7 Pro computer:

    So I never could activate the product.

    How I found this out? Well, finally I tried one more trick and installed the FSX on my second old Windows XP computer and then installed the WfFSX there. It installed easily and the addon also works. However I can't use my old coputer for running FSX. It is far too slow for that. FPS so low that it isn't playable.

    The question is how can I install the program to this newer Windows 7 computer because I can't activate it. I have removed UAC and tried to install the program as administrator (besides the user pekka has administrator priviledges as choosen default). What else there might be in this Win 7 that prevents the installation go on properly? I don't know. I have sent a ticket request for CS. Let's hope they answer something more than "look at the manual" this time.

    I have win 7 home, so I can't be much help there . A couple of months ago over at Avsim, there were some threads asking for some help with the CS weapons pack. You might try there.

    My Windows is a 64 bit system. If yours is 32 bit, perhaps that has something to do with this problem?

    I'll go on to AvSim and look there. If I find out something there or from the CS support (or by myself), I'll write to this chain a message.

    The answer for my previous question was just "read the manual". The second (different!) question was about the installation problem I found out later and about that there was absolutely nothing in the manual. They probably didn't even read my question!

    I don't still know what went wrong with the installation on my new Win 7 Pro 64bit computer and why it succeeded on my old one? It is possible that CS will get this same question from some 3. part later. If they would have answered/solved it out know, it would now be a part of their "error database" (F.A.Q.) where I didn't find out the solution either.

    So, I was on my own. I tried just one trick more. I copied everything the installation program had made/copied on my old computers HDD to my new computer and did overwrite folders and files there. Heureka! The WfFSX started to work on my new computer too. The activation must have changed some file and when I copied it, the program started to function.

    9 points of 10 for CS about this addon, but just 4 for their support services.

    I do run windows 7 64, but its home edition not pro. This is why I will never ever buy anything from captainsim again. I had activation problems with the 104 also. I have given captainsim a negative review at the places I have purchased products from.

    I tried it. UKMILs Harriers use GR7 model's panel (redirected to other models) and I think that's why the Weapons don't work with GR5 or T10 models (they should be changed manually). For 3rd party aircraft the WfFSX only works with 2D panel (said also in the manual). However I found out that though the program works with GR7 model the WfFSX HUD is in the middle of the 2D cockpit panel i.e. on the gauges! Haven't yet find out how to move it. However if you remove the panel (shift+1) you can calibrate and use the HUD. The other way would be to move the panel downwords. It would also so be nice to be able to remove the text from the original panel (maybe disable some gauges?)

    In the manual there is said that WfFSX can also be attached to the 3D panel, but that is more complicated and is explained in the Weapon for FSX SDK (downloadable from the CS site). For the time being I haven't tried that yet with 3D panels.

    Strange. Here it works quite fine with GR.7 and 2D panel (3D panel I haven't yet even tried as I said). CSWeapon changes the planes panel and renames it as panel.csweapon and uses this new one (the original panel is left and intact as backup). I'd look in the panel.csweapon (the armed aircraft uses) and compare it with the armed default F/A-18's 2D panel. CSWeapon also renames in the aircraft.cfg the aircraft type as for example: "ui_type=Armed BAe HArrier GR7". However for me it doesn't put the target icon on the armed aircraft in the aircraft menu (haven't examined why - not so important).

    Edit: As you know CSWeapon uses some AI aircrafts and airfields (mentioned in the manual) as enemy planes and bases to hunt. However I found out that one can shoot any AI plane and it works while there is the line "visual_damage=1" in the planes aircraft.cfg file.

    If you want to run the installer as if your W7 machine is an XP machine then you can right click and select properties, under there will be a compatibility mode to run the installer in and one of the options will be XP. This might get you to the activation window.
