This year was an absolutely amazing race.

It also had a few 1st in the race.

This was the fastest race ever.

It was the first time anyone used Antarctica and the South Pole as a passage from New Zealand to South America.

and it was the first time Tako_kichi ever listened to his wife Karen without questioning her logic. (I'm going to get it for that one. )

The Race Committee once again put together an excellent event.

    Thank You from the Team

    and Congratulations to

Hey now, our secret weapon isn't shown on the list. She's as much a member of our team as anyone who flew.

    Good race guys!

    It was fun to watch.
Basic Flying Rules: "Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there."

Congratulations to all members of the SOH team and thank you to all those that have given me some credit for coming up with the idea for the South Pole route. It was fun being part of the planning this year. You guys did a great job of executing the plan

    Hi KG,

You (ok, you and Larry, hehe ) were our "secret weapon" this year. The "Polar Plot" was an audacious plan, fraught with risk, and potential big reward. Carried out well by our flying team mates, it was a significant contribution to our victory this year. Bravo Zulu!

Hi KG and congratulations on your find. Is it true you had to smack Larry around the head a couple of time to make him see the logic in the route?

    Cheers
    Pat

One of the interesting things about this “polar plot” was the fact that the other teams considered it, but dismissed it as too risky. To be honest, I was among those people who thought the same. I made a test flight down there in an F7F Tigercat, landed in the snow a few miles from the airport, not knowing the actual airport location was about ten miles off from what the GPS reported. I ended up sliding down a snow covered hill, but didn't register a crash. The fact that we pulled it off was due to audacity, which is always good, and a little bit of luck, which doesn't hurt. In any case, it will now go down as SOH RTW Racing Legend, which is very cool.

A big, fat thanks to our 'KG Spy' for the audacious plan over the pole, and to the rest of the planners who realized it was possible and made it happen. It was a pleasure to fly with you folks once more to victory. Hopefully next year will prove more of a challenge.

...and I hope I can find more room on my aircraft for the trophy pics.
