    RTWR 2012: Special Rules v1.00

Again, MRC Investigations is the first with the news.

Attached are the RTWR 2012 Special Rules. They will soon be posted on the official website and may be available on your teams' sites as well.

Question for the Makers of Rules: Why is the Piper Navajo specifically excluded from the kickoff event? It seems to be grouped with those planes "mainly commercial transport aircraft." Is this true of the Navajo?

    Yes

    From Wikipedia
The Piper PA-31 Navajo is a family of cabin-class, twin-engine aircraft designed and built by Piper Aircraft for the general aviation market, most using Lycoming engines. It was also licence-built in a number of Latin American countries. Targeted at small-scale cargo and feeder liner operations and the corporate market, the aircraft was a success.
While a great family GA aircraft, the marketing goal of development of the Navajo was aimed at commercial sales. Also many versions of Navajo aircraft exceeded the informal 6 seat maximum goal for this event. The one I own, from FSD, is modeled for 6 seats, but includes weight settings for a 7th possible passenger.

This is just a personal opinion, not from the Committee.

Personally, I feel that when we expand the RTW aircraft available for team flights and kickoff events beyond the default aircraft, we get into too much rule complexity. Which model by which company/ group/ individual is accurate? What should be the aircraft size/ type cutoff? Etc.

I, like almost everyone else, enjoy flying my different non-default aircraft, especially those I felt were good enough to pay money to obtain. However, I also believe those are better suited for special events like are hosted here in SOH and FlightSim throughout the year.

Since the Navajo saw a lot of service in South America - what about a 4,500nm event crisscrossing the Andes in May? Twin pistons min 6 seats, max 10 seats? Navajo, Queen Air, Aero Commander?
