Captain Sim B-52 (proper level attitude takeoff and landing mod)

I made a tweak to the flight dynamics on the awesome CS B-52. It now takes off in level attitude, or with the slightest rotation, versus the heavy 747 like nose high rotation required out of the box. It also gets off the ground in the neighborhood of 150KIAS instead of the screaming 185 it did out of the box. Likewise it also lands in the proper attitude, not the nose high approach it wanted, and in the neighborhood of 155-165 KIAS.

I feel this mod better suits the awesome visual model CS built. Here's a video of my takeoff:

http://youtu.be/i1xCqdL8dFc?hd=1 (switch to 1080 for the best picture).

I found out after doing my mod, that there already is a fix done by someone else. But, I figured I'd still put mine out there in case anyone was interested or prefers not to use the other mod that is out there.

    It works great!

I always thought the B-52 took off and flew with a nose down attitude.

I got that impression from this video

Any chance you could please send it my way as well? Took the buff up for a flight today and was even more aware of the shortcomings after this flight....thanks in advance!

    Glad you like it!

I'm sorry guys, I've really fallen behind the curve keeping up with requests. I've been on the road a TON and only looking at the board from my phone. I'm going to try to catch up and I apologize once again to everyone that has PM'd me and still hasn't gotten the fix.

In fact, there have been so many requests I think I will go ahead and see about uploading it to one of the FS sites. Never done it, so this'll be my first time.

    thanks
1st test flight with your mod
takeoff fuel was set to 40% for all tanks except left and right aux which were set to 10%, airborne at about 160 KIAS
looks like all mains touched down at the same time, landing fuel was 33% touchdown 141 KIAS, approach 169 KIAS
very close to your readme speeds
This was a low weight test.

    BUFF takeoff

Dave is absolutely right...at least for the earlier models. They climbed with a slight nose down attitude. I was an aircraft mechanic in SAC for years and watched a few hundred or maybe more take off. That nose down attitude sticks in your memory, cuz it's so unique. Never did understand why it took off that way or how far it climbed out that way.

Sorry to bother you, but the attachment link is dead. Any chance to get it alive?

The Buff has a variable AOA in the horizontal stab. There are fuselage markings that indicate its angle at the leading edge. The nose down look is caused by aircrew setting that angle. There is also a stability augmentation system, SAS, tied into it. I was in avionics and this is the best of my memory. Believe the adaptation was to keep the AOA of the high lift wing at its best angle.
    Best regards,
