Actually BB686, they just posted new versions of the French and English language manuals today. In addition to the Dassault Aviation logo that they are now required to prominently display, it includes discussion of the latest features. So good spotting there. :salute:

    Warning :
There will be no automatic "already started / ready to take off" option with this Rafale for FS9.
    Cold start option only !

I guess I've been privy to a lot information about this project that hasn't been put out in other forums just to be reposted here. So let me just say that based on an email from VPA the above "warning" statement is untrue.

By default the VPA Rafale will come with ”cold start” gauges. But a set of different gauges have been coded and a "quick start" panel.cfg file will be available in a separate folder of the aircraft. It will be a simple process of deciding which you prefer and make one or the other your personal default panel.

Time to relax. Enjoy the weekend.

Thanks for this info Frank !

Philippe of VPA Rafale Team also ask me to put this info on SOH Forum but you did it before me.

    Too busy on Biathlon !

As I will be very very busy for the rest of the winter as a Biathlon Team "Wax Tech / Logistic & Weapon Specialist"
from now on I will let Frank relay any new info from VPA Rafale Team on this tread.

Here is below one of the athlete I serve as a Wax Tech / Logistic & Weapon.

I like the idea of a "cold start" from the ramp. Every now and then I jump into Bookmark Flightsim's Saab Draken.... it's a cold start model and it took me for ever to get the routine down. Now it's second nature.

Methink the cold start procedure will be not a problem for anyone who want fly this new Rafale
They have (or will) all the time to read and reread the manual already available (and even a video) before they can eventually begin to install the Rafale

    Bonjour,

    Hello,
Not yet, and too little evidence to make any assumptions.
1 It is not known how long it will take for the approval of the Dassault aircraft.
2 The recent change in texture of the 3D panel to reduce fps requires a tremendous amount of work to go through all MFD pages were finished.
It tells you more as soon as we know more, now we know nothing.

I'm starting to worry about frame rates after watching that video and reading the last quote there. It looks like a fantastic project, but I'm used to a steady 48fps with clear skies. Fingers crossed...

    ...after watching that video...
Aargh! Jaggy VC cockpit frame! Gents the frame is right there in your face, it's what you see all the time, this is 2012... AARGH!
All that effort to make an authentic experience, and the frame looks like it came from FS98 AAARRGH!

Well... I think I remember reading at one point that there would be a "light cockpit model" that would be easier on framerates. Maybe that was it, but I really don't know at this point. I thought I saw an updated English version of the flight manual the other day... but turns out I was wrong about that. I did notice that in the video, the narrator was zipping the views in the VC back and forth without any noticeable frame rate hit. Since most of my VFR and all of my IFR flights are done from the 2D cockpit, I don't find any issue with the VC. I like to spend alot of time in the spot view during my flights, panning around the visual model anyway. When she's finally released, I'll fly her. Just my 2 bits.

There was a new manual uploaded the day after your post. You can tell you are looking at the latest by the Dassault Aviation logo on the first page. Adding logos is one of the requirements for them to release.

    Thumbs up

    From the forum !

    Hello,

    Hello,

Rather it is to meet Alex, who manages the discussions entirely DA / us.

If I understand Dassault allows us to use the name Rafale, Dassault Aviation's name and logo, which, without charge, without compensation, a kind of license.

They do have a say about the products distributed or would be (2000, eg Falcon) under cover of this license, and it is this technical approval of the product that we expect and not leave, say , legal.

The product is somehow the mark, even if they do not count on us to sell, it must be realistic within the limits allowed by FS9 too.
    Go figure ....

Currently .. there are Dassault employees who install FS2004 on their PC ... learn to use FS2004 ... and when they will use it properly (it is going to take months ...) they will test the Rafale .. with their test pilots ....
So ... it's not tomorrow that this "freeware" will be available for download .. and he must still receive the approval of test pilots ...
It was in doing anything that you become anyone

You know the real drag there is that there have been no FS developers outside of France who have made a Rafale. So they are all within the reach of DA. The payware FSX version by Roland Laborie has been off market since last October. Even the FSX freeware Rafale M by Thor's Hammer is not longer available for exclusive download at the VFAF site. But we do have the old but continually revised version from Gator.

Actually let me correct my earlier statement. There is a flyable Rafale in the MAIW Rafale package. Needs a panel and such but might be a starting point for someone. Plenty of textures already made for it.

Do you think India will get their's first at this rate?

Quite possibly... but I can patiently wait for this one.
It's not every day that you get a freeware Gen 4.5 jet that is approved by the manufacturer, after flight testing by its test pilots!

DA must first check the FS2004 "freeware Rafale"
When all tests performed ... they will return on their business with India
    Each his priorities ....

I do hope the pilots aren't confused when they go back to the real world after FS.
The VPA Rafale is pretty system-deep so I'm sure they will appreciate the work
that has gone into it. Hopefully their feedback will make it even better.

Gator's Rafale is still an excellent flyer for FS9 and with all the mods and updates out there for it -- as far as I'm concerned, it's going to be around for a long time to come. Lots of repaints for it too, and I did a nav-light mod for the Rafale a while back, just changed the looks of the lights a bit. I think it enhances the appearance of the jet alot, especially the black "Rafale C" variant. It's available over at Mirage for Flight Simulator. There are also numerous afterburner effects for this little gem.

As far as the VPA Rafale... we could be in for a long wait before it's released... if at all. I really can't fathom any reasons why Dassault is putting so much emphasis on a freeware model. Now if this were a payware model, and VPA stood to make a considerable amount of cash from it's sale.. that would be different, (maybe). I think that Dassault should pay the VPA Group a royalty, just for letting their test pilots put their hands on the "freeware" VPA Rafale. :isadizzy:LOL!

A first in France. First female officer pilot on Rafale.
    Capitaine Merouze.

    http://rafalenews.blogspot.com/2012/...le-rafale.html

A few years ago then "Lieutnant" Merouze was on basic training on Grob at Cognac Air Base
and was selected for fighter training on Alphajet at the Tours Air base "École de Chasse".

You will recognise officer Merouze here on this six episodes french TV report called
"Femmes Pilotes de Chasse" ( Women Fighter Pilots ) available here :
