    Fiat CR-42DB

    Hey all,
I recently dusted off Thicko's CR42 with the DB601 engine (it's in the SOH Archive, just gotta look up under Peperez). It is a CFS2 plane but for the most part is just fine in FS9.
I changed the sound to Lawdog's DB601 for that sublime supercharger whine (Best.Engine Sound. Ever.).
I made a few changes to the panel for evaluation purposes (added a throttle quadrant, radio stack and GPS--most of which is temporary).
It could use a BananaBob prop; did he make a white 3-blader?
FDE could use some work; I topped out at just over 240mph at 3000'.
My biggest issue is with the VC. Despite my mods all I did was to make the instruments more readable. the instruments that are supposed to be on the left side of the panel are on the right and I have no idea where the right-side instruments are. And don't get me started about that gas gauge just sitting out there in mid-air. Any ideas?
Here's what I got so far with the panel.cfg file; I have commented out the original lines where I made changes:

Here's the VC segment from the Falco I just installed....after I increased the pizel size from the original 256,256 to 1024,1024 for max gauge clarity. Everything works just fine.

I think what is tripping up your VC is the way you have the position=7 lines commented out. Uncomment those lines and see if that fixes the gauge positions.

Also, you can take the pizel size setting up to 1024,1024 and have gauges that are crystal clear.

    OBIO,
I copied and pasted your VC section. Even though the gauges are crystal clear I still get the gauges in the wrong area; looks like the above VC shot but with clearer gauges.
When I first got this plane I had the position=7 lines in place and I was still getting the same effect. I had taken them out because I was basing it on Ivan Hsu's Curtiss Hawk III VC entries which doesn't have position lines in it, but has right and left VC entries like this one. IIRC the last time I had this plane I had tweaked something and the gauges got smaller but still were misplaced. Will do some further research as soon as my wife gets off my computer (I had to hijack my daughter's laptop--don't get me wrong it's nice but doesn't have FS2004 on it and she gives me a dirty look when I ask if I can install it for her)
I'm pretty sure we'll get it figured out. Thanks for the tip with the gauge clarity--I didn't think we could go that high (pixel size=1024):ernae:

I copy and pasted the panel config you shared in your first post into a new panel.cfg file for Thicko's Falco and fired up the sim to see how it behaved.....all is fine on my system using your panel config. Try downloading the plane again, reinstalling, and see if perhaps something on your current install of the plane got fragged or contaminated or some such.

I'm thinking it's my computer. I downloaded it again and put on your mods and I'm still getting the gauges showing up in the wrong area. I appreciate your looking into it however. It's done this before in a previous FS9 install as well.
Still a neat 'what if' to add in the virtual hangar...makes you wonder what would have happened if they put a Merlin in a Fury...

    Interesting development...

I was fiddling with some of the VC entries on this and got a different set of instruments in the VC now. I have come to the conclusion that the position entry means nothing (at least to my install of FS9) but take a looksee here...
my changes are in bold; I commented out the position lines after putting in different numbers and getting the same result; I swapped the texture lines; VCockpit00 originally had $panel on it. Based on this; I could use CFGEdit to put all the instruments on one texture. Just gotta find the right sizing for it and all.
I also changed size_mm from 256 to 128 and nothing showed up, so I put it back to 256,256.

Yeah, there's no problem with that one. Don't get me wrong I love Manuelle's version but Thicko's is so much easier on the framerates. Back in my CFS2 days Corrado's CR42 in Caccia Nottore colors was my favorite WWII bipe

    We're gettin' there...

After realizing the radial engined and the inline engined models have the exact same panel.cfg coupled with my little discovery in the previous entry I have concluded that the VC on the CR-42DB has only one texture, not split over two of them. Preliminary work on the VC is yielding some promising results; I still have a ways to go but once done I will post my findings. Here's a screenshot to show some progress; hope you all like it

    Got it!

    Hey all,
I think this is how the VC was supposed to look...in any case I got it figured out. Granted the VC gauges don't match the 2D version...but this is the case on the radial-engined version as well. Just copy and paste this over the original panel.cfg file and you should be good to go. Hope you all like it!
