Question A preference question for you...

    To all,

I decided to take a break from the Kondor! campaign and have been working on the Battle of Britain.

Thus far, I have two campaigns for the British completely reworked and updated. One is "August, 1940" originally done by Talon, and "Hornchurch Squadron," with is a thoroughly modernized and updated version of RussBoB.

I'm also more than 60% done with both "Kenley Squadron," which is my update to the Groundcrew "Hurricane Scramble" campaign, and "Battle of Britain," also originally done by Talon, which is an update of the CFS1 campaign.

So, my thought was to release the British side of the Battle of Britain with Kenley Squadron, Hornchurch Squadron, August, 1940, and the Battle of Britain, together with a 26-mission campaign with the Spitfire, and a 25-mission campaign with the Hawker Hurricane.

The German side would be released a little later.

So, do you want me to release the campaigns individually, or stick with the British side, and then the German side?

Yes, please!? Which is it? :isadizzy:

This response reminds me of something that Johnny Carson asked Robin Williams once...

Carson: "Is this a comic picture with serious overtones or a serious picture with comic overtones?"

Williams: "Yes, and we hope for all of those."

    Dear Super MB man (Rami)

I would prefer them individually for my time of sim flying is very limited and also because a great campaign with different squadrons and planes would't be too accurate historically speaking. Also the chances of success would shrink to a one digit % (unless you fly and re-fly each mission many times). Last, but not least, because installing or updating them individually will be more simple for the newbees with the senior sim. And they will be more easy for developers or redevelopers to update with new planes/skins/ships/scenery/objects/sound/textures, etc.

Thanks for all the work you share with us.

    Cheers, Discus:salute:

Not sure what is meant by 'accuracy' here, but its been done before with other PTO camps. Several others in the past have given us 'historic' camps fought from different perspectives on one side, like flying as a US fighter pilot in the Marianas for ten missions or so, then switching to a torpedo or dive-bombing unit for another ten turns. Moreover, WRT 'accuracy', you can setup these camps by the historic 'numbers' if you will, but history flies out the window at the first encounter with AI -- NOTHING goes according to record in CFS2.

Also the chances of succes would shrink to a one digit % (unless you fly and refly each mission many times).
Its simple...whatever you do for sustained success in one campaign, you repeat in all the others. Success doesn't come hard in CFS2 -- its hands down the easiest combat sim i've ever flown in terms of mission accomplishment due to its low level AI engine. And we're only talking BOB here, so its all fighter furballs and bomber intercepts no matter what bird you fly on the British side, and for the German side its gonna be bomber escorts, fighter sweeps and the inevitable furballs initiated by the RAF in both cases. Just shoot 'em up and go home, unless you're Luftwaffe, then you gotta keep a sharp eye on that gas needle.

Again, we're only dealing with several aspects of one historic campaign, fought in one local region, by the same aircraft types in every mission, so i can see no reason why each perspective couldn't share the same aircraft, scenery, objects and such to simplify the individual setups and even aid in any updates.

Rami, my wish: Finish each camp on the RAF side first and merge them into a single long camp, then go Luftwaffe. Any noob can get through a 25 turn quickie, but a true test is getting through something long and strong, with lots of gotcha's

BTW, i liked that reference to the Carson-Williams exchange...LOL

Yup, that's pretty much how the missions progress...from the English Channel to the airfields and then to London.

I've tried my best to follow this principle exactly, to keep the downloads to a minimum.

Bearcat, therein lies the problem, in a sense. The package would be an amalgam of various campaigns done for the Battle of Britain over the years.

As an example...when Lenny Flank did the Battle of Britain package at Simviation that has you fly a 25-mission Hurricane campaign and a 26-mission Spitfire campaign, many of the missions are mirror images of each other, just flown from different perspectives. The only way to truly pull that off, though it can be done, is to go through all 106 missions available for the Royal Air Force side and write down the day and time, placing them in chronological order, and then figure out how to handle identical missions, (random chance) missions that occur on the same days and/or same times, (again, random chance) or add in hidden performance-based missions. That's kind of a tall order...

I'm way behind on the campaigns I really want to fly :redf:. I know this isn't what you want to hear but I say please yourself. Also, I have flown all of those Battle of Britain campaigns before. I am glad you are updating them, but it will be a while before I get back to flying in Britain.

I am trying to do some minor updates to the Spanish Civil War campaigns, mostly just trying to find better planes to fly. I doubt if it will be anything worth releasing, but Rami, I wanted you to know I am taking a crack at your suggestion of many months ago.

    Britsh side first, please

A genuine "Rami" campaign is always worth flying, but by all means, if you have the British side finished, please publish it and spend the time needed to come up with the German side.

And in that way we stand a chance to finish the British side campaign, before you launch an improved version of it. You really ARE spoiling us

    Hi Rami,

Could you add my GSL London landmarks as they are destroyable with your missions.

I have been thinking of making one poly exploding objects to be use for German night bombing missions with lots of flame effects etc. I hope you understand what I mean by one poly objects for night bombing missions. I think it would be good for fps and when you bomb you have a chance of hitting something.

Let me know what you think.

    Robert John and others,

I already have. The London missions will have the docks (my own GSL layout) as well as the London objects, bridges, and a few other city blocks I've placed here and there in GSL to spruce up the place a bit.

Also in use will be GSL ports created by me for cities such as Harwich, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bristol, Dover, Ramsgate, and Portland.

    Good afternoon,

I've been working on building a GSL port at Southampton for a couple of days, and after about six hours, it's ready to be made into GSL.

Next come the AA guns, vehicles, and docked ships.

    Progress report...

    Good evening,

As of this evening, all of the missions (14) for "August, 1940" have been redone and updated, along with the missions (10) of "Hornchurch Squadron" and the missions (18) for the CFS1 Battle of Britain conversion.

I also have 11 out of 13 missions done for "Kenley Squadron," though the final mission, Dunkirk, will probably take me a couple of days to do properly.

After that, then it's on to the Hurricane and Spitfire campaigns before I wrap the package up.

    GERMAN SIDE!

I dont know WHY always like playing first side of the losers and the winners then, I'm sure I'm not sympathetic to the Axis side, but I like to fly in this campaign a HISPANO HA1112 like used in the Battle of Britain.

    Mission,

I have not forgotten about "Operation Sealion." Not to worry, Hermann the Walrus will roar with all the fury of Deutschland.

The campaigns for the Germans will feature the CFS1 campaign converted to CFS2, (It's literally a mirrored image of the missions you'll fly from the British side) along with a 25-mission campaign for the Bf-109, a 20-mission campaign for the Bf-110, and a 20-mission campaign for the Ju-87 Stuka.

I'm also going to create from scratch a 25-mission bomber campaign featuring the Ju-88a, the Do-17z, and the He-111. Just give me some time, herr Mission!

    To all,

Just like with Fleet Air Arm, I wanted a little more action for the first "Kenley Squadron" (formerly Hurricane Scramble) mission over Dunkirk. That way, you can actually see ships moving to and from the beaches.

The next steps are to time the mission properly and create a GSL harbor at Dunkirk.

    Good evening,

We now have a GSL port at Dunkirk, and four out of six campaigns for the British have been completed...Kenley Squadron, Hornchurch Squadron, the Battle of Britain, and August, 1940.

Here are a couple of snapshot previews...58 missions down, 48 to go.

Question For those skilled in Fraps...

    Hey,

486_Col_Wolf got me thinking...(I know, that's always dangerous, hehe) would anyone be willing to splice together a opening video for the British side of the Battle of Britain that would include bits from Churchhill's Post-Dunkirk speech to the House of Commons that included the words...

"We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender."

    ...and...

"ride out the tyranny of war, if necessary for years, if necessary alone."

I was thinking of doing something similar for the German side...perhaps using the "Aces High" march.

I just think it would truly put this project over the top, you know?

With all your work you have done I think intros etc can be important to missions and campaigns. This might start new development to the game. I am not a player yet but I am going to start and maybe start a cfs2 club Flying and Development here in Bristol uk.There are transits in cfs1 or are they too copyright for this. They can be converted to work in cfs2.

The RAF equivalent to ''Aces High'' is this:

I'd love to do this but atm I just can't commit enough time

I have a Luftwaffe BoB and an RAF BoB frap done. Rami has seen the Luftwaffe and I will be sending him the RAF ASAP. If he thinks they're good I'll make them available for D/L in the CFS2 section.

    To all,

The Hurricane missions for the Battle of Britain continues to progress nicely...as of now I have sixteen of twenty-five missions done. All that remains will be the Spitfire campaign. If all goes well...I should certainly have the RAF side done by the end of July.

As far as the German side, it will depend on how far I got beforehand with the missions before moving on to other projects, and how much tweaking the missions I know I finished actually need. Ideally, I'd like to release the German side by September 15th, but considering the need to build a bomber campaign from scratch, this may be a bit unrealistic.

Alternatively for the Luftwaffe there's "Bomben auf Engeland", which has plenty of accompanying film clips.

Perhaps Vera Lynn singing "Blue Birds Over the White Cliffs of Dover" could be added to the RAF version.
