On the 1st of April 1971, No.204 Squadron was made operational at RAF Honington as a shipping surveillance and search and rescue unit.
From here it carried out the requirements of the Majunga Detachment and the Beira Patrols. (Persian Gulf)
This followed the closure of RAF Ballykelly in Ireland.
A Mk2 Shackleton is seen here at RAF Honington; in all, I believe that 14 Shackletons were based here; due in part to the additional commitments of SAR, as a result of the Nimrods unsuitability to use the Lindholme search and rescue equipment.
Anyone interested in Shackleton Operations would enjoy the book 'Growling Over The Oceans' by Deborah Lake.

Don't you just hate it when the sun sets and your aircraft isn't set up for night flying?
Let Being Helpful Be More Important Than Being Right.
Sun setting, now, sure hope the airport has lights and have paid there electric bill.
Gosh! You almost had me fooled!
A very creditable rendition of the Falklands Task Force Dave

@ Nate: It's Dirk Stuck's great "FSX Project Dodge Viper GTS". You can find it at flyawaysimulation.com (not sure if third party links are allowed here....) It's about 11 MB size, several animations (inclusive removable aerofoil, nice roaring sound etc.) Many colour versions...
Best regards, Manfred.
A Few shots from FS2004
and one from Fsx
