How to Remove 'Read Only Attributes' from XP: attrrib -r c:/ etc; asked before

Probably has been asked a million times; but how to easily remove 'read only' from game folders, so can add-on BoB items, etc

Simple changes attributes from 'properties' box doesn't work; cmd window attrib not seeming to work as should: too hard.

Just want swap qclocations file; add spawn files; add facilities, etc. Sorry to be a pain!
    No Joy with this!

Icutler, what do you mean "remove 'read only' from game folders"? If you are right-clicking on the main game folder of any CFS3 or CFS3-based install, yes, you will see the "Read Only" box marked. This means nothing if you are trying to add or modify anything in the sim. It only counts if the FILE in that folder is marked "Read Only".

If it's a file you're trying to mod, and it's marked "Read Only", then yes, you will probably need to change the "Read Only" attribute.

If that's the case, then it's right-click on the file, make sure the "Read-only" box is UN-marked, then click Apply.

Now just right-click on it again, open with Notepad and edit the file the way you want.

Save the file where it is and exit the file.

Now, right-click on it again, mark the "Read-Only" box, then Apply and OK again. You're done.

NOTE: AWAYS backup EVERYTHING you intend to modify or change in any way before you try. That will save you a LOT of heahaches.:d

    Thanks Grizzly.
Understand from game folder aspect. Have just been disallowed from things like rename/replace 'qclocations' file BoB. saw the check box and maybe assume too much. Also find machine could be intermittantly screwy;random typo.-like things.

Saved bacon: sounds like don't have to get too heavy with microsoft stuff. phew!

    Virus?

It actually sounds like you 'caught' some trojan or keylogger and it has taken over your system. I would run SpyBot Search & Destroy or MalWareBytes program AND a complete scan of your system with a regular anti virus program (with updated (latest) definitions). Avast (free version) is a good choice for the anti virus part.
