    2011 Race Announced!

    Hi Kids,

Just posted this on the homepage and submitted it as a news item to the other sites; wanted to let you all know (since I didn't see a news submission form, I'm posting here!)

    2011 RTW Race Announced!

    26 January 2011

We will indeed be holding an RTW Race this year.

Details have yet to be fully decided, but the race will be held in approximately one month; in the third week of February.

At this time, we're happy to extend invitations to participate in this year's to each of the teams that competed in last year's race.

We look forward to having another spirited event in approximately a month's time!

We're still working on it, but we'll let you know as soon as we've got things nailed down.

Is it the case that many are eager to take advantage of the president's day holiday and start the race over the weekend of 2/19?

Didn't realise that it's a holiday weekend here in the states, but it does make sense when you think about it to get more participation.

Seeing as how I already have the week of Feb. 21st booked off from work, I would very much prefer to see it start on the 19th...

At iFlyOnline we're also expecting a start on February 19th, partly because that's the weekend after Valentines day, and partly because Race Committee member MM said "Note that this year's race starts on February 19th" in another post.

Cool looks like we have the start of a Quad Forum Mutiny if the start date is not the 19th of Feb like it should be.

I also put in my two cents that it is is too late to change the date.

like Willy, i wasn't aware of the holiday...i usually work it.
but, i agree that we might get better participation.

add me to the "has already requested vacation" list.
as i am required to give 30 days notice for a vacation request,
i will be sol if the race is any other week.
please do not take this as a threat,
    it's just the facts.

    Hi all,

We have been working on the assumption of a February 19th start (maybe around 1500 UTC). But we have not finalized the "special rules" in which that date and time are fixed. So Matt was being careful about announcing a date. But you can almost surely expect a February 19th start...unless something entirely unexpected happens. We know that lots of race participants have already made plans.

Thanks for the update Mike. I'm sure the Race Committee gang puts at least as much time and effort into setting the "special rules" as the teams do in solving the challenges they set. Much appreciated!

Looks as if I should be around at least for the first day or two of the race unless they ship me off on a trip ( I am on standby) but have to travel to Miami for a sim czech on Monday. There are a lot of good things about my "job", but planning time off isn't one of them.

    Cheers: T
