    Question The Cost of Being Stubborn

    ... Means I have officially popped another mental circuit breaker.

    While flight testing a new Spitfire, I discovered I no longer have external [PAN] view function off the joystick.

    Yes, I re-installed the drivers. AND ran all the SETTINGS stuff. It will pan INSIDE the cockpit, but not outside...

    I keep getting the idea that there's something turned off in the CFS.cfg file.... but my tired old brain refuses to give up the WHAT...

    So - Anyone out there have this in their notes for me to try Sunday Morning , please ?

    Thanks in Advance

    SC, go to your Combat Flight Simulator 2\SITUATIO folder and open defair.flt and defgnd.flt with notepad. Scroll down to [window.1] section. This section controls external viewing. Paste/overwrite my settings below over yours in both files after backing them up:

    [Window.1]
    Order=0
    Active=True
    Undocked=False
    Maximized=False
    ManualMaxed=False
    ;ScreenUniCoords=0,0,8192,6144
    UndocCoords=0,0,0,0
    ViewType=Normal
    ViewMode=Cockpit
    ;ViewMode=Virtual Cockpit
    ViewDir=Foreward
    CockpitZoom=000.50
    VirtualZoom=000.50
    TowerZoom=008.00
    TrackZoom=000.50
    SpotZoom=001.85
    MapZoom=011.00

    SpotDirection=090.00
    SpotDistance=+000060

    ;SpotDirection=090.00
    ;SpotDistance=+000123

    ;SpotDirection=000.50
    ;SpotDistance=+000500

    SpotTransitionType=Fixed
    SpotFastTransition=True

    ;SpotTransitionType=Roll
    ;SpotFastTransition=False

    SpotAltitude=+000010
    PanHeading=360.00
    PanPitch=360.00
    PanBank=360.00
    AutoFullScreen=True

    Everything with semicolons are just disabled optional settings i keep for fast switching when desired.

    WRT the SPOT settings above...

    SpotTransitionType=Fixed
    SpotFastTransition=True

    ;SpotTransitionType=Roll
    ;SpotFastTransition=False

    ...Roll and False are the defo settings, which you may still be using. I prefer using Fixed and True settings because this gives me more control when pan-viewing my dp edits on the fly. The Roll/False thing makes it harder to get the perfect pan angles for making fine location adjustments in gunflashes and payloads.

    Hope this helps...

    Thumbs up Hmmm...

    Thank you Bearcat;

    Did a plug and play of your numbers, No Joy as yet.....

    But NOW I know where to look [and tinker !]

    More later today - I need a coffee IV drip to get going !

    PS-I'm of the opinion that this is NOT joy-stick specific challenge [I'm using a Thrustmaster Hotas x] and it's a simple of a mis-set value.

    Hi buddy:

    Go to settings, controller assignments and save your current profile. Then restore to the default profile and give it a try. If the problem persists, then the problem is with the joystick or software - uninstall-reinstall and try again. If you still have the problem after reinstalling (don't forget to delete the stick's program folder before reinstalling), then it is probably a hardware prob.

    Also, try swapping out to another stick and see if the problem duplicates itself.

    Good luck...

    Thrustmaster :icon_twi:...oh no! ...that name alone gives me chills in connection with CFS2. Bad memories amigo...bad mamories. In my experiences, TM hardware just seems to give CFS2 hardware code the creeps...keyboard gets amnesia, TM joystick gets stupid, assignments just stop working, etc...

    The Solution Is At Hand.....

    Fear Not, Friend BearCat - I have solved the challenge with your assistance !

    It took a combination of your new [Window.1] data, plus a cut and paste from a separate [read WORKING] joystick installation from the CFS.Cfg file [The complete joystick axis and assignment info at the bottom of the list] to get it working again.

    I had completely forgotten about the
    SITUATIO folder importance.... But all is right in my BoB world once more.

    Thank you again, Sir !
