    «Songbird»

«Songbird» was the name of the little aircraft that played the main role of the TV series from the fifties called «Sky King». The original Songbird was a Cessna 310B. I wanted to re-create the Songbird using the Milviz Cessna 310R model.

It has been difficult to find proper color photos of the little yellow bird, as the TV series was i B/W. I am quite sure of one thing: The basic color was yellow. With good help from friends at the Milviz Forums, we estimated that the darker color could be Sierra Gold.

The project ended up in 2 liveries of the Songbird - the original color scheme, and a scheme of the Songbird III (which never took part in the TV series, but was used for promotion)

    Nice renditions.

I know this is not the same model. But I think the back window area could look a bit better by a gradual taper towards the rear window and over the top above

well, the original original wasnt a 310. It was a radial. Still a cessna i think, but a radial.. There were actually three or four cessnas that were involved in the show over the years, But the one that i remember most was the one on this page.. http://www.westernclippings.com/reme...remember.shtml

I really like both of them just the way they are.Ignore the negatives, they look great.

Not meaning to be negative. The repaint looks great. I think the colors are very close.....if not spot on. From one painter to another, I'm mearly pointing out what sticks out to my eyes to make the scheme as realistic as possible. I guess I'm just more of a perfectionist than you are Thoe

At Warchild, you mean this one?

::LOL:: I'm not sure.. I wasnt born until 1951 so i only remember the 310.. However Sky was my biggest hero as a kid growing up in the midwest and i guess still holds a special place in my heart.
I've always hoped someone would make the 310B or D ( the blue one ) but its probably a fools hope.

Yes, the first Songbird was a Cessna T-50 Bobcat. I don't remember the time frame, but think in the late '40's it was a navigation trainer and "hack" aircraft. I think the first three episodes of Sky King were in the T-50 before the switch to the 310. See http://www.americanflyers.net/entertainment/skyking.asp

I don't know. Being as Colin did the model the songbird schemes were applied to, there might be a good chance he'll do the others too. Not that I'll mention it
...Now that the Songbird and Songbird III schemes have been done, I've been led to the trap by some tasty bait

We kicked around the idea of doing the Riley Rocket 310 (a limited edition high performance turbo-charged version), but decided against it in the end.. The earlier models weren't even on the table at any point. It really depends on the demand for the aircraft.

Too bad, I would buy an early version 310B in a heartbeat... a real classic.

    Songbird was yellow?

I never ever saw a color pic of the songbird 310. In my mind I always imagined it as a light blue. Don't know why. But yellow you say, wow, don't know what to think about that. I do think the paints look great!!

Sky King was the best! Jim

Thanks for all good input to these liveries. Yes, the first «Songbird» was probably a Cessna T-50 Bobcat, followed by at least 2 Cessna 310B. One of the 310s crashed in 1957, killing the pilot.
I found a lot of interesting stuff here:
    http://members.cox.net/skykingtv/skyplanes.html

I also found this intro (probably well known for some of you...):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LBEJ...eature=related

Well, I was born in 1957, and we got our first TV many years later. So I did not know about the Songbird(s) before someone suggested to paint the 310R as the Sky King Songbird.
