Brian Gladden's Norseman packages can be found on Flightsim.com, along with a lot of other nice stuff he has done. Do a search for Brian Gladden. Brian says that his stuff is long in the tooth...but his planes find more air time in my sim than any other maker. OBIO

    Norseman wheleled contact points !

    Hi,

Never noticed this plane before. I have downloaded HenryW's files from Flightsim. Is there a contactpoints update somewhere? In Claudius's screenshot the wheels look fine but my plane sits much lower. The tailwheel disappears into the runway.
Indeed the contact points are very bad in the original download

This is my correction of contact points for the Norseman wheeled:

I enjoy flying the repaint of the Norseman in which Glenn Miller was lost; sort of a tribute to a man that gave the world some great music.

Brian said the FD were based on a Beaver. Has anyone tweaked them closer to real world performance?

Looking at your paint, and comparing it to the pics of the read deal....having some reflectivity on the floats and struts would really take your skin to another level of WOW! I haven't checked to see if the Norseman has reflective texturing or not....if not, and if Brian is cool with it, I can add reflectivity to the MDL.

Thanks for fixing the contact points, Claudius!
Forgot to mention that these textures will work on the wheeled version too.

    Obio:
I've assigned your great P&W R-1340 sound set (intended for the Ford Tri-Motor) to it:

FS2004/CFS2 Tweaked Ford Tri-Motor Sounds. Tired of the FS2004 Ford Tri-Motor sounding like a collection of food processors? Here is a tweaked version of the stock sound pack to really make the Tri-Motor sound great. Also includes sound config files to create single and twin engine sound packs based on the Tri-Motor files, finally a nice Pratt and Whitney R-1340 sound set. These are the stock MS sound files, simply reworked to be what they should have been all along. Will work in CFS2, FS2002, FS2004 and FSX as is, can work in CFS3 with some minor tweaking. By Tim Dement.

    Thanks for these!

I believe the model isn't done with shine ability yet (texture file names don't bear a "..._t"), but I'll keep the files stored with the option to add some decent alpha shine once Brian gave you a "go".

Isn't it great to see this awesome model "born again"?

The major part is done, just have to flip all this stuff to the starboard side:

These 'boomerang' lines on the tailfin got me some more grey hair, but I think this is it!
Looking at those screenies makes me think this model already has some basic shine - just look at the float tips. Let's see if I can polish them up right now...

    Cheers,
    Markus.

Markus, the paintwork is looking great!

Claudius24, thanks for the wheeled contact point adjustments.

For sound, I've been using OBIO's Beaver/R-985 Sound Pack.

After checking out a number of videos of the Norseman at idle, taxiiing, taking off and doing fly bys...I now have a good idea of what I need to do to get the sound pack for this bird dialed in. I will start with the R-1340 sounds from the Ford Tri-Motor sound pack I did and give them a little more bass and umph....the Norseman has a nice open exhaust system that really lets the Wasp breath! Will incorporate water sounds for the float version.....using the Auxillary Scrape 1 sound call and will include the needed contact point tweaks for the float plane to get the water sounds activated.....I did a thread on Adding Water Sounds to Float Planes Version 2 the other day.

Will work on the sound pack during my breaks from Spring Cleaning...1 room done, 1 room 1/2 done, 2 rooms to go (not counting the bathroom...which has been elevated from Spring Cleaning status to Minor Renovation as a new floor will be going down).

    Thank you, Brent!

That's good news, OBIO! Looking foreward to it (although I'm quite happy with your Wasp sounds, just missing the splish-splash...).

Just tested some darker alpha on the floats - but they start vanishing (see screenie). Because I didn't mess up with the time line, killing the float's grandpa, this is a non-shineable model up to now. But I think it's already shiny enough for a rugged workhorse!

The panel is available now btw.

Sheesh.... I can't believe I made that model without assigning it for reflective textures (by the way, you don't need to name textures with a _T with FSDS)

However I did add Specular to the model so it has some shine. Obio... feel free to tweak the model for reflective textures. It would take me too long and I'd probably screw up the texture mapping in the process.

PS: If someone wants to make up new flight dynamics... GO FOR IT!!!

Flight dynamics have never been my forte and I usually had to resort to begging Herb Morse for help. Unfortunately with his passing, I cannot do that any more.

    Done!

Just uploaded this fabric covered bush beast to the usual places.

Check out if all the ice has gone from your docks and water runways and crank up this mighty Wasp!

    Have fun!

OBIO, I've assigned your great P&W R-1340 sound set (intended for the Ford Tri-Motor) to it:
Yes, these are the ones to go with. Thanks for the heads up. And thanks OBIO for the tweaked files.
I was tweaking two birds at the same time and put the wrong sound pack in each....now I'm all straightened out. Thanks guys!

Going nuts waiting for some library somewhere to have this purty new paint.

I will be uploading a dedicated sound pack for the Norseman here in a bit...Based on the R-1340 sounds from my tweaked Tri-Motor pack...I added the Ground Roll sections from the stock Cessna 208 to activate water landing sounds.

I have tweaked the stock waterloop and xwaterloop sounds to make them louder. If any one would be interested in them, I can upload them to the library....after I do laundry and make tater salad for tomorrow's cook out.

    claudius24,

Did you make your own propblur for the Norseman? Looks nice in your vids.
I'm using the B24 3 blade prop by Bananabob and it looks pretty good. Also added in to each texture, prop_anim_ratio=1.025

    OBIO,
Load 'em up! (louder waterloop sounds). Nothing like a good set of mix n match sounds.

    For the Gurus:
I've tried every contact combo I can think of, but cannot get the Norseman Floats to backup with Shift+P.
All my other floatplanes pushback just fine. I use it to simulate a "push off" from shore and sometimes to do fine adjustments at dock parking.
    Any clues?

EDIT: Nevermind on the float contact points and pushback. I'm a dork....was comparing straight floats to amphibs. Obviously it takes wheel contact points to get pushback to activate. I think I might try hiding some invisible wheels in the floats so I can use the push off from shore feature.

    Dogknot,

This gave me a good laugh:

Last edited by dogknot; 8 Minutes Ago at 15:37. Reason: dork

I hadn't thought about the push back on floats....adding invisible tiny wheels up inside the floats would do the trick for sure.

    OBIO

Oh....I just uploaded a sound pack for the Lycoming R-680....I included the tweaked waterloop and xwaterloop sound files in that package.

Anyone that would like to try out my adjusted Norseman Floats contacts section....including the hidden/fake wheels... here they are. The pushback feature works great with those hidden wheels. Also can crank enough horsepower with the "fake" wheels to get 'er moving on snow and grass.

Thanks for the contact points for the float Norseman...will come in handy the next time I pull up to the bank of a Canadian River to do some fly fishing.

Bank, shoreline, ah heck just land her and sit on the float and cast your line. Nothing beats fishing with a relaxing wave action.

    No .. just a copy past from a other plane .. A BF109-G in fact he he ... (Bf 109 MAC D-FWME)

I put the texture in attachement (remove the ZIP extension)

    The animation is:
    prop_anim_ratio=1.5
