Just bought it myself, and have had some frame rate issues in the larger areas, will tweak and defrag before I pass judgement tho. I did do a flight in the brooks range, just a quickie from Coldfoot to Wiseman and back, and found the scenery much to my liking. and it's good to have my favorite state to fly back looking good. (now there's only two sceneries keeping fs9 on my machine misty fjords, and glacier bay)

Is it just me or has this been the best couple of months ever for FSX bush flying? Tongass X last year, now Mike's supercub, the carenado 185, the bird dog, now this, and it looks like FTX PNW about to get released as well!

I'll be curious to know how well this works with the Tongass Fjords package. Does this cover the Aleutian Islands and Kodiak Island too?

Holger Sandmann developer of Tongass Fjords X contributed to the Ultimate Alaska product. How to configure them both to work together is noted in the manual provided with Ultimate Alaska.

Ultimate Alaska does cover the Aleutian Islands and Kodiak Island.

I can see Bush Virtual Airlines and Charter communities suddenly filling with new blood.

    Imagine... UTXCan+UTXAlaska+TongassX+MistyX+PNW from FTX.

Almost the whole Pacific Coastline to explore and 1/4 of the way into the Rockies!

99.9% of my flying will be right there for the foreseeable future! :ernae:

Before buying this I'd really like to know more about the mesh, such as:

    What is the resolution (e.g. 5m? 10m? 90m?)?
What is the source (e.g. Intermap? ASTER Global DEM? USGS NED?)

    Does anyone here know?

    cheers

This could be a great day. I am downloading now. This will make practicing local flights so much nicer.

You'd probably get a more direct answer at their site.

They say it is comparable to v1 of Justins (FSGenesis) mesh and that he is working on a v2 that is tailored to this product.

Man, what great news. Finally.....been working allot lately and have been out of the loop FS-wise the past few weeks....great to see as Alaska is one of, if not my favorite, areas to fly, and without UT have not flown it at all since FSX (Except Tongass, that is).

Got it installed last night! Didn't have a whole lot of time to check it out, but I am anxious to get home tonight and try it out... I did find something though, that in Windows 7 if the Terrain.CFG file is set to read only the setup/ config utility will not run right, not sure why my Terrain.CFG file was set to read only but unchecking it made the problem go away.

38m, multi-LOD. Unlike other Alaska mesh that is 38m, with NO LODs...

Should I get this or Tongass X...

If you had the money for only one of them, which one honestly would you get first..?

    Thanks for your input..

I think the only difference between versions 1 & 2 of FSGenesis is the sloped runway issue.

V2 has the runways adjusted as to not show up as plateaus. He has been working on Alaska for a while now. Lots of runways and just about all of them are sloped

Tongass by far since it is more specific and has more custom scenery.

true, but according to that post today the V2 that is out already is different from the V2 that Justin is working on specifically for UTA.

Our source data are a mix of 60-m NED2, 30-m SRTM1, 90-m SRTM3 with some Canadian 25-m data along the eastern boundary, basically whichever source worked best for a given area. For example, SRTM doesn't reach north of 60 degrees latitude while the recently released ASTER 30m data are very poor quality for Alaska (and much of the rest of the world, sadly). The edges between the different source files were carefully blended and then compiled as multi-LOD (4-10) FSX terrain bgl files at 38-m grid spacing.

    Cheers, Holger

Hitting pretty hard here. I have a "modest" setup (Q6600, Radeon 4870 (512), 2gb ram) and in most sceneries I can get between 20-30 frames if I don't jack the settings up too much. I can get this throughout alaska just fine as well, but the cities (fairbanks, Anchorage) I'm puttering along in single digits with full Alaska X settings. There are a couple of lower vis settings in the control panel that I'm playing with, and I was able to get about13-18 FPS with those, without too much loss of eye candy (I don't really care if the housing positions are all factually correct) Anchorage completely KO'd my FS the first couple of times I ran it last night, before tweaking.

0 frame impact Max right except my autogen is pared down to 75% right to my satisfaction. My AMD Quad is loving the UTX Alaska and Canada.
