    Warbirds Over Wanaka

Over Easter every second year there is a brilliant warbirds airshow.
2010 promises to be another good one.

I never did finish my AI package for this, started and stopped a few times.
Maybe this year I'll beat the show deadline...
I had an idea to add some Recorder Module tracks to the package, which solves the AI flyby issue - also maybe some aerobatics.

Not sure how big a RM file you can generate, but I'll keep adding until something breaks

Anyhow, here's a short WIP preview
(I got it working in HD fullscreen. You really need this mode to see what goes on in the background)

    Ya think?
Anything's possible of course, in the virtual airshow world...
I have plans for the Yak-52's so far (Here flown by Grumman F3's but will be swapped out).

    Also a Spit, Hurricane, P-40, Corsair...Mustang certainly.

    Jeepers, under US$20, I should've waited...

Think there may be some advantage in packaging RM tracks instead of "normal" AI. Apart from the better flexibility, the user can choose how many tracks to run - and what aircraft to use for the tracks, too.

For now, I'm plugged into the ALPHASIM Harvards...a dozen or so haven't broken the video card yet!

EDIT: For those who do fall for above shameless scenery plug (I am not commercially connected btw) here's a small texture addon I did, with an AFCAD which allows taxi room between rwy and fence.

I was planning to do Wanaka this year...see how things work out next weekend...

Hmmmm - having spent some time researching on Commonwealth Mustangs, this lower part of our planet appears more and more interesting to me.
And the current outside conditions of a rather arctic tone also make me wish to leave my usual flight surroundings of the "Great White North".
    Sorry, Canucks... :ernae:

So what is this 'Real NZ' collection for FS2004 all about?
37 EUR sounds like a good deal.
I've read that the Red Baron Elevation Mesh is not included. Is there any freeware mesh recommended?

    Cheers,
    Markus.

Don't bother about my first question above!
I just took the plunge and purchased the whole collection (have had some pocket money left...).

Additionally, I've collected some nice pics of Kiwi-bearing aircraft (the usual suspects such as Harvard and Dakota), so there will be some repaints with this kind of roundel in the future!

But the question concerning the freeware mesh still remains:
    Any recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Markus.

    Markus you won't be disappointed...
There is a freeware 75m mesh available, see this page but the landclass and 20m mesh from simpilot experience will transform these sceneries.
On which topic, oodles of NZ freeware available at Snowman's Site

As to repaints, jankees and others have done quite a few, see naki's list

I grabbed a hotel close to the airport , Mike 'Creator' is to stop there , he bring the pc gear for the display , but i'm sure we can sneak you in though the window Hahahahaha

Markus Welcome to New Zealand , there are many , many freeware scenery's for FS9 , we also have a dedicated TS (Team speak ) channel for multiplay and a simple chat , details can be found @ www.nzff.org

Thanks for the links, mates! :ernae:

I agree, that's some splendid sceneries of a very beautiful landscape.

If I only could get rid of this nasty speed bump at Wanaka's runway. Seems like one of those "duplicate AFCADs" issues, one one of the flatten switches didn't come over correctly in this rather annoying installation routine...

All other airports work well, but Wanaka obviously needs some tinkering.
    Any suggestions?

    Cheers,
    Markus.

Markus, we all need a break from the Great White north once in a while. Thank you for all the nice paints and enjoy the virtual vacation. New Zealand is a wonderful country with many geological beautiful sites that I hope to experiance one day for real. Will keep the Buffalo hanger warm for you:salute:

Ah yes, Markus, you need to change the following line in the FS9 config file to this:

    TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21

and that will get rid of the speed bump.

    Thanks for the help, Mark!

Changed it, but still no joy.
The aircraft sits at 1147,4 ft (that's also the apron's elevation), but the visual rwy and the surrounding surface is about 6 - 8 ft underneath.

I've raised the rwy via AFCAD, so the "bump" is covered, but now this flight deck floats above the ground.

I think I'd better reinstall and try again...

    Hmmm - strange...

    The reinstall did the trick!
Now I know what I did wrong in the first place:
Think I forgot to put the second AF2 file into Scenery\World\scenery.
Dunno if this really was the reason, but Wanaka is now levelled correctly!

    Now I'll try Wing_Z's update...

    Phew - that's quite disappointing.
Never figured out that there are so many Kiwi repaints already done before.
Even the MAAM Dakotas are obviously represented completely.

Hard to find anything to be rolled into the paint shack...

Ummmm ..I have to have a think about this as the Harvard, Mustang, Corsair, Tiger Moth, DC-3 etc have been really well covered but what spings to mind is the latest scheme for ZK-WAR - a Harvard and longtime NZ warbird and because the scheme is new it hasn't been done

    http://capphotography.ifp3.com/#/gal...-92-air-2-air/

Another one that springs to mind is Rick Piper's Chipmunk but most of the NZ schemes are very RAF orientated

    http://capphotography.ifp3.com/#/gal...oth-air-2-air/

The above linked site should give some food for thought. I will let you know if it hasnt been done as my list as posted above is a bit out of date.

The Kittyhawk (especially for an important NZ fighter) hasn't been that well covered but I am not sure what model is the best

Personally I would love to see the Realair Citabria in one particular scheme. I know somebody who owns one of these and it is pictured here http://capphotography.ifp3.com/#/gallery/citabria-air-2-air/ . There is also a Decathlon in NZ but there isnt many picture sof it.

I would also love to see the Realair SF-260, in the one and only NZ scheme (yes one did live in NZ and I have a photo somewhere), and Carenado's 152 and 172 in NZ shemes but not sure whether that is your cup of tea.

If anything else pops into my mind I will let you know here! :salute:
