    Installing Scenery and planes outside the fsx folder ?

    How is this done ?

    If so, what edit would I have to put in my fsx.cfg file to recognise an aircraft folder outside the fsx folder ?

    The reason I ask this, i read it can be done and it would make things much simpler in the event of a reinstall. What it didn't say was how to do it.

    Cheers

    In fsx.cfg there is a section the points to all of the aircraft, vehicles, etc. all you need to do is add an entry showing the link to the new folder.

    Here is a C&P from the cfg.

    [Main]
    User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
    SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
    SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
    SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
    SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
    SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
    SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc

    Hope this helps!

    I already have extra folders in the Simobjects folder, but if I was to put the folder outside of the FSX root folder, I am assuming the entry will need to be different, but do not know how.

    All you need do is quote the full path after the "="sign:

    SimObjectPaths.6=J:\!FSXAircraft
    SimObjectPaths.7=J:\!AIAircraft
    SimObjectPaths.8=J:\!WOAI_Aircraft
    SimObjectPaths.9=J:\!FTXAI_AIRCRAFT

    As George indicated, just supply the full path to the new
    folder, wherever it is.Here is mine, for example. FSX is on
    my I: drive in the ungainly default path, Programs\Microsoft Games\etc\etc\etc...

    I installed alot of AI and other specific aircraft types in their
    own folders on different drives or the same drive but different path:

    [Main]
    User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
    SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
    SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
    SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
    SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
    //SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
    SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Misc
    SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Aircraft
    SimObjectPaths.6=M:\FSX AI Aircraft
    SimObjectPaths.7=M:\FSX Military AI
    SimObjectPaths.8=I:\FSX Military Aircraft
    SimobjectPaths.9=I:\FSX A6 Aircraft
    SimObjectPaths.10=SimObjects\Propliner Aircraft
    SimObjectPaths.11=ORBX\FTX_AU\FTXAI_AIRCRAFT
    For scenery, when you install it and go to activate it using
    the FSX Scenery menu you have to point FSX at the folder
    no matter where it is so that process takes care of the
    whole process for you.

    I have an "Addon Scenery 2" folder on a different drive
    from the FSX install.

    I have all my simple BGL airports and scenery in a folder all it's own so that I only have to simply click on them to add them in the scenery library and it makes it so I can resintall fsx a million times and only have to quickly readd them without unzipping dozens of airport files again.

    Bella Coola X worked well that way too. As did my Canada 19m mesh packages.

    Tongass Fjords, Victoria+ and Vancouver+ and big AREA based scenery kits should go in the default folders WITHIN fsx so that thier "configuration tools" and repair options work properly.

    Aircraft I always put in the default folder.

    If you would like screenshots of the process I can provide if you like.
