    Headphones/mic recommendations

Was hoping for some help to make a decision. I hate not being able to physically test something, especially something I'm gonna wear before I purchase it.

    I need to get a headset/mic set.

    Prefer a gamers type.

    Comfortable
    cheap
Sounds good for online chat/flight sim
    cheap
    Inline switch for mic on/off
    cheap
    Noise Canceling

    Any recommendations?

I have a cheaper Logitech set.
It's not in their catalog anymore but I think I paid around $25 for it at the local WallyWorld. It's real similar to the one they call the ClearChat Comfort USB except mine isn't USB...it's just got the regular analog 1/8" plugs.

One advantage to using a USB type headset is that it functions like another audio device (like having a second sound card) and if you want, you can pipe your voice comms program to the headset while keeping your FS audio running to your speakers. You can also run both programs to the headset too if you want.

Cheap is as cheap does and you may be better off paying a bit more for something good.

I have used cheap headsets in the past and they were either so uncomfortable they became seriously painful after less than an hour's use or they just crapped out after a few months use.

I have been using a set by 'Inland' for over a year now and was very pleased with them but Santa just brought me a new set. I got these from Newegg Canada.........

...so far I like them. Audio is good to excellent, mic seems clear from reports I've had and they are light and comfortable to wear.

I went to my local office supplies outlet and bought the cheapest one they had and it works fine, the cable gets a bit tangled up at times though.

    It is made by Labtec.

If 'silent running' is the goal to keep the spouse happy at 2am get one with dual earpieces so you can kill the speakers. If, on the other hand, speakers are ok but you chat or need to hear the m-i-l calling then the one-ear type works best - TeamSpeak goes in one ear, spousal unit screams in the other.

In either case, if you intend to use it for TeamSpeak, Vatsim, etc. or other programs, hopefully find one with an easily-adjustable mic boom (mics work best 1" or less from the lips) and "noise-canceling" types cut out the background noise or the sound of roaring engines and screaming pax.

Mine is a single-ear Labtec that I bought about 3 years ago for $25 or so - could be better but it meets requirements.

    Quality DOES count!

    Radio Shack

Gigaware USB Headset catalog number 43-215

    Noise cancellation Mic

In line mute button and volume control.

    Nice big cushions very comfortable.

Sound is good no problem hearing when I use it as a headset.

Cost last year when I bought it. $35.00

    Worth every penny.

I usually do not use it as a head set.

It sits in front of me and I talk into the mic. I use the PC speakers for external sound.

I do this because it gives me the best of both worlds. A great head set when I want to use it as a head set and the ability to walk around in the apartment when not using it as a headset.

    I highly recommend it.
