Thread: Conspicuous by Their Absence

The Asymmetry isn't THAT bad. Here is a site with some drawings I plan to use which illustrates the differences.

    http://digilander.libero.it/enniotar...205Disegni.htm

I also picked up a book by Squadron / Signal that is a good reference.

    Smilo,
The Stuka you talked about is from the Luftwaffe Collection and is available at www.justflight.com in the boxed add-ons section. $8.15 US plus $7.00 shipping to US.

    yup, after i posted,
i did a little digging and came up with the same thing,
although, i didn't notice the shipping charge.

even though it is a nice AC,
and there are other nice planes in the package,
i'd say that $15.15US is a bit spendy for a Stuka.
i mean, jeez, if you add the RAF package,
    we're talkin' $30+US.

    i can't help but wonder
    how many sales they've made
    in the past few years.
    maybe someone could convince them
that it's time to offer both as freeware.

    just a though...or two.
    sometimes the magic works.

From what I have seen, very often Payware isn't as good as stuff you can get for free. Perhaps with other simulators things are different? (No, I wasn't refering to planes I built.)

    I agree Ivan,
So when is your Stuka scheduled to be released ?

now, there is a subject for controversy!
you would be surprised how many people
    get their feelings hurt
    if someone criticizes their work.
    ahem, choke, choke...
fortunately, CFS is well beyond it.

    as i see it, it's a yin/yang thing,
some are excellent, some are not.
that goes for both, freeware and payware.

    to be honest,
i have NEVER bought a sim product
    and don't intend to.
    as i see it,
there is plenty of freeware to keep me happy.

    BUT, and here's the kicker,
    as a staff member,
one of the perks has been a few gifts.
    for example, Bill, aka, LionHeart,
    generously gave me a copy
of his fantastic Epic for FS9.
    that thing is a jewel!

    so i guess i'm talking
out of both sides of my mouth.

    hey, Ivan!!!
    just a thought
how about the how to project plane
    being a stuka,
    instead of the veltro?
    like i said,
    just a thought.

I would venture to say, smilo, that the Ju 87, being filled with nooks and crannies, is not a proper "starter" project. Ivan was looking at relatively smooth curves with a minimum of "bleeding occasions". Starting with the Ju 87 would be like learning piano by playing a symphonic piece on your first lesson.
Torture numbers and they'll say anything.

    yes, no doubt about it,
but it was worth a shot.
just trying to kill to birds
    with one stone.

i would say the stuka as a project
    is pretty much analogous
with the German industrial war effort,
    great engineering, just too complex.

    of course, i'm over simplifying.

    Hi Folks,

Hubbabubba explained it pretty well. The Stuka in my opinion is quite do-able using AF99. The problem is that it would not be a simple direct process. I am betting that it would need quite a few rebuilds to be able to finish without exceeding the resource limits.

Besides, I have already done quite a bit of research on the C205 Veltro. I see it as fit for a tutorial, but I don't see this becoming a releasable plane anytime soon.

    - Ivan.

Two months and change down the road, the Macchi C.205 Veltro Tutorial is finishing up. Most of the essentials are there. Now it is mostly just detail stuff.

The really funny thing about the choice between the Veltro and the Stuka as a Tutorial subject is that with hindsight being perfect, the Stuka would not have been all that different in terms of complexity. The Stuka may have a lot of pieces, but it is basically all straight lines and hard corners which makes it attractive from a modelling standpoint.

Did I just put "Attractive" and "Stuka" in the same sentence????

    ahhh, yes you did...

best be careful what you say,
    lest the harpies be released.

btw, excellent job on the tutorial.
    thanks

    how about another?

Instead of Harpies, it's "Cry A-20 Havoc and let slip the Dogs of War!"

Regarding the Tutorial, if something is unclear, let me know. The result at the moment is full of bleeds. I believe it is about to get another major re-arranging of pieces. Are you hinting about another tutorial???

The B-26 is one I have wanted for a while.

ah jeez, that isn't what i meant at all.
but now that you mention it....ahhhooooo

    a B-26 would be great,
    as would any twin.
    but as you've said before,
    multis and limited resources=problems

actually, i was hinting at another tutorial,
but i was just encouraging the Stuka comment.

    Smilo,
I have an old AFX file for a JU87Stuka if you would like to play with it. by Don Incoll ?

As about as hard to find as your going to get.

    thanks Dave,
don't know if or when i can do anything with it,
but you know me, i'm a collector.
    please ship it.

just curious, where did you get it?

Check your mail my friend. I have others posted in the design section of the FFS.
It came from an old Stuka site that has long since went by the way side.

    Dave

  17. #267
    Hey No Dice,

Can you send me a copy also? I am curious.

    - Ivan.

  18. #268
I am having a monster fight with the Veltro at the moment. I spent a couple hours on it last night and am not quite done with the re-arranging yet. I should have picked the Raiden for a tutorial instead. I also installed another Macchi C.205 last night that wasn't bad.

Regarding big twins, I want one finished also but there are too many things going on at the moment. Anyone ever look seriously at the Ki-46 Dinah? That was another hot bird besides the He 219 and Ju-88. As you can probably tell already, I have a great preference for high performance stuff. The Mosquito is an exception because everyone has already built one.

The Stuka is on my build list but isn't high. I already have an unfinished dive bomber that moves pretty well: The SBD-3.

Looks like you got it twice Ivan

    Dave

  21. #271
Yes, I got it twice. Thanks to both of you!

I poked around at it a bit.

BTW, No Dice, you have a very nice Veltro on your site already:
    http://www.thefreeflightsite.com/MC.205%20RF%20V2.5.zip

There are a bunch of things I would do differently, but this is still a very nice model.

    - Ivan.

  22. #272
    Ivan,
I agree with you, the 2.5 posted is really a beauty, BUT yours gets to go into the Ivan Collection and nothing can compete with that.

Hopefully most people notice that I am quite particular on what gets posted and what does not on the Free Flight Site. It is intended for the collector, the garbage is still out there on the other sites for anyone that wants to spend the time weeding it out.

    Dave

  23. #273
Actually I will disagree with you here. There is LOTs of stuff out there that can easily compete with anything I have ever built.

    - Ivan.

  24. #274
I also have a Lysander AFX that I have not posted, Anyone want it.

P.S. to Ivan, if that was true, they also would have their own section on the Free Flight Site.

    after spending the weekend
figuring out how to open the stuka,
    (actually, Ivan showed me)
i'll take the Lysander just for a look see.

although, i do have a very nice one by James Elwood.

by the way, to say the least,
the stuka leaves something to be desired,
but maybe useful in a project
i've had in mind for a few years now.
