I wondered about it too Mike. A feathered flyer! There are some Russian birds with paint like that but the location does not make sense.

  2. #23852
Could that feathered bird be a Monospar?

Here are two pictures from a similar angle (the first one is mirrored). The Danish Monospar seems to lack the small strut from the rudder to the elevator.

Like Kevin, I have a recollection of a rather oddball Russian flying machine having been painted in similar fashion, but I'm afraid that I can recollect no more than that and utilising that slight recollection has produced nothing on the subject by way of online searching!

I think you have the Kalinin K-12 in mind ......

I think that you're right, Jim, but evidently that's not the 'bird' which was next to the Farman at Hendon in the late thirties.

  6. #23856
No, I think Robert has hit the nail on the head ! Look at the horizontal tail surface that can be seen in both photos - the central hinge, and trim tab, are unique to the Monospar.
As for the paint job, I have searched to no avail !

So let's go on with this bird, no need to look at aerofiles.

Is it the Gazuit-Valladeau GV.1031 Gazelle?

  9. #23859
Indeed, Mike, it is the Gazuit-Valladeau.

Enjoy your beer or cider, whatever you prefer.

  10. #23860
Thank you, Robert, but at this time of the day I think that I'll stick to coffee!

Now here's something that served the same purpose as the Gazelle but a couple of decades earlier.

From a famous manufacturer. There was a small production run for this model, which spawned something much better known and extensively produced.

Indeed it is. The prototype M.28, photographed in 1941. Well done, Jim, and over to you again.

  14. #23864
Thanks ! On with a Bipe ( obviously there were more than one ! )

    A flock of Ansaldo A.300's.

  16. #23866
Indeed they are ( in Polish Service ) - over to you .....

  17. #23867
    Thanks Jim.

    Not Polish...

  18. #23868
Methinks this is the Texas-Temple Sportsman.

  19. #23869
Very good Robert. I took the photo myself several years ago. There is one survivor hanging in a Dallas museum.

  20. #23870
Thanks, Kevin, it was a bit of luck that I found the Sportsman. Interesting that of only three built aircraft one still survives.
    On with a flying elephant

  22. #23872
    Surely it's not a Dumbo Jet ..... ?
