This afternoon I've been up more blind alleys than I care to admit and every time I find myself coming back to François Denhaut. Now I'm sure that I'm going to be told that this curious machine, with its rather piscatorial appearance, has nothing whatsoever to do with him. But I'll ask the question nonetheless before I run up the white flag!

Not a Denhaut effort. This canot-volant was built for the military circa 1913, but I think they moved on to something else after their design did not perform well. It had a 60hp motor of unknown type.

The Seine? It would have thought it was something from the banks of the Somme - in particular from the loft of the home of M. Jules Verne.
If you ever get the opportunity, his home in Amiens (now a well-kept museum) is certainly worth a day of an aerophile's life to visit.

This one hangs above the circular staircase leading down from the loft.

With these hints it's clear: Canot-volant Alvarez et de Conde

Also designated the Alvarez y Conde No. 2. I wondered if anyone was going to use the canot-volant hint as a search item. For gX

Have attached the text from that article for our French readers.

I did, and drew a blank. Maybe a search engine other than google would have yielded a better return?

I think Gx is in Chinaland - Kwangsi Type 3.

Doubtless there will be umpteen other answers - our oriental chums were as profligate as the French with their designations......

    lefty is spot on

    According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liuchow_Kwangsi_Type_3

"Developed by Chee Wing Jeang, the Type 3 was a single-seat fighter biplane, the prototype of which was produced by Liuchow Mechanical and Aircraft Factory."

GX, I think you should go for it if the usual suspects aren't biting......

I think I will put Lefty's parasol out of it's misery. This is the Gourdou-Leseurre GL-30. Note the flimsy wheels!

That's the one ! With retracting gear to gain a bit more oomph......over to Texas...... ..gx was, of course holding back, so a wee glass for him too.......

    Today's theme...failed bombers.

    Lefty

Was the GL-30 pix orig. not hiding any markings?
I didn't have that one so thanks very much.

Yes, no photoshopping at all, Chris.

  23. #13973
Thanks Lefty. If source is not your secret can you say where you found it?

giruXX would like to see the other pix of it if you can. I found another pix of it on the web head on pix.

Hello Chris, you may look here: https://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarch...urdou-Leseurre

W.r.t. the actual "bomber". I am wondering if two engines is enough for that size or if there is space for a pair of pushers which I cannot see ?

Hmmm.... yes, and don't those props look as they would foul the fuselage ? Unless, of course, they're in front of it ?
