Thread: The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

    Not European, Robert

  2. #21552
Mike has lost faith in me.

    Here you go Sir.

Lose faith, Kevin ? Never, but in this instance you merely intensified the mystery !

Search back to post #1475 and you will find Walter's explanation - the only other picture appears in 1000 Aircraft Photos as the Monocoupe Courier. It is not in Aerofiles or anywhere else for that matter !
To add to the confusion, a register search reveal N64000 as a Cessna 180K....

Have the beer anyway and hopefully someone can untangle this one - and I thought French mysteries were problematic

I'm off for a couple of weeks to somewhere hopefully a bit cooler than Texas but a lot warmer than Scotland ! You will never guess where..

Ah, so he'll have some Madeira, m'dear - but will he have to quarantine on his return?

  5. #21555
I presume so, but the wee s**** is just as likely to change her mind as the bunch in Westminster. It's all about being seen to be different. Pathetic.

  6. #21556
    Enjoy your vacation Mike.

Here is one that hopefully is less confusing.

Found that very picture on a nice website just yesterday.

That is the Carley C.II in Soesterberg, Kevin.

  8. #21558
Right on Robert. Have at it.

  9. #21559
    Thanks Kevin!

    On with another biplane.

A European one-off built for aerobatics.

  11. #21561
Not from a country with a big aircraft industry.

  12. #21562
    ..... it looks Hopfner/Hirtenbergerish ....

  13. #21563
Not from Austria, Mike, but you are not far away.

  14. #21564
Then staying within the empire, perhaps the MSrE M-21 Harag?

  15. #21565
Indeed, Mike, it is the MSrE M.21 from Hungary.

Next clue would have been the colours on the rudder.

Over to "Down by the Sèvre", please

  16. #21566
Thank you, Robert. I was surprised to find the Harag via wikipedia!

    Now here's something that's not a pretty sight ..... !

  17. #21567
Was looking at this one the other day. It's not French!

  18. #21568
Bother, my curve ball has been exposed!

  19. #21569
Sadly, my Ord-Hume is at home while I swelter in Funchal ! (Maybe it's cooler in Texas......)

  20. #21570
I wish Mike. We are still hitting the 32-34C range daily. Need a nice strong cold front to get us down to 15C!

  21. #21571
It shares a name with an airline that must be close to lefty's heart!

  22. #21572
No takers? This is the Angus Aquila of 1931. Sadly, the designer lost his life testing it in March of that year.

  23. #21573
    Sadly, Kevin, it seems not!

Yes, it is the ill fated and inappropriately named Angus Aquila. The only thing aquiline about it was its nose profile, which suggests some semblance of a eagle's beak. Certainly there was nothing aquiline in its flight performance.

I thought my clue might provoke a reflex response from lefty, as he sat on the balcony of his hotel, looking out to sea and, after a good well watered lunch, dreaming of an Aquila Airways Short Solent gently cleaving the waters of Funchal Bay as it touched down .....

Over to a hopefully tepid Texas!

  24. #21574
Thanks Mike. Moving on with a curious one.

  25. #21575
for me this looks like a Klemm 35 (in the Spanish Civil War?)

    Open House if OK.
