You're on the right lines, Uli, but it's not le Bichel. It's the Dragon 1 of Daniel Dalby, a designer best known for his Pouchel - so called because it employs the Mignet formula (thus Pou) and has a ladder frame fuselage (thus chel from echelle). And if you think that the Dragon 1 is strange, Mike, I invite you to google his Hydrochel 2. Against that the Dragon looks ridiculously normal!

    Open house, I think.

  2. #17277
Okay, here is a pleasing pusher to ponder.

  3. #17278
What a delightful example of alliteration - no, that's Kevin's text about which I speak, not the aeroplane illustrated!

  4. #17279
This landplane version crashed on it's first flight in 1917. The earlier floatplane variant was more documented. From a well-known designer.

  5. #17280
Here is the floater version. I think the designers most famous build was a racer but he was involved with over fifteen different aircraft.

That, sir, is one of Mr Alfred Verville's early designs, which mostly seem to appear under his own name and also that of the General Aeroplane Company. 1915.

I have just finished constructing a kit aluminium greenhouse, and, looking at this photo, a floater like this would be a lot easier - and no glazing.......

  7. #17282
... and with the saved parts you might build a "pouchelle"

No, Uli. The pouchel is so minimal that you'd probably be able to build two from Mike's left over parts! But the concept of a flying greenhouse is not too far from reality. Friends had one in a gale last winter. Fortunately they were not at the controls when it took off as its landing left much to be desired. Like Mr Verville's aeroplane, their serre volante crashed on its first flight. Maybe they built a pouchel out of what was left!

I can see the headlines now - 'Presumptuous Pictish pioneer pilot perishes in prototype's precipitate plunge '

Should this forum be re-named 'Poets' Corner'?

    Guys, you made my day.

Nearly fell off my chair laughing.

  12. #17287
Mike has it with the Verville build. The official designation is the General Gamma L.

    Over to Scotland!

Recycling is all the rage nowadays, so I'm going to shamelessly recycle an old mystery ship - Walter knows it, but let's see who else can catch this cantilevered chappie....

There are some nice pictures of the Morozov on russianplanes.net.

Let's go on with a grainy picture of this monoplane.

    Hello Robert!
    I think this is the Fokker D-XIV(14) of 1925 driven by a Hispano-Suiza 12Hb...
    Cheers

    That was fast, Carlo!

It is the Fokker D.XIV which remained a one-off.

    Over to the Tuscany.

Carlo, nobody else is biting. I think it is too hot in Europe (yes, even in Scotland) for people to concentrate properly....

However, Campari soda in hand, I'll declare this is the Lombardi LM.7
