2 out of 3 is not too bad.

Here is something more modern and probably quite a lot faster.

I wonder how mush fire it would spit if it were more than just the tail.

Maybe it was fire in its tail that ended its life.

    Hi fabulousfour
The Schroeder Dragontail Goodyear racer (N60298 and race # 50). Lost before it could compete.

  5. #16730
I should have made a bet that the correct answer for this mystery would come from wout.

Of course it is the Dragontail

There is some Piper in it, but remainder is own design.
I promise a better picture once solved.

    1949/1950. Lycoming O-235. Span seen as 12.333ft and 14ft.

That Sir, is the "The Thing" designed by Charles Bailey.

    Hi Kevin
That, Sir, is 100% correct. Registered N3M and reportedly Mr. Bailey may even have built two examples. Sadly Mr. Bailey lost his life while performing in N3M in October 1950.
    As promised a better picture.

    Thanks Walter.

I know a certain Scotsman that will be on the prowl for this watery beast...

It's taken me half-an-hour to get into this site again, so better hurry before it disappears!

Moses' floater is the Besson MB-26.

Not sure my other half would agree with you.......

Here's a neat number in a classic style - well maybe a few struts too many - but where's she from ?

I think we need a clue. Been all over the map with this one but convinced it is a western Europe number.

Either that or everyone easily guessed it within five minutes and I'm the outlier.

  15. #16740
Everything is possible, Kevin. From a (very) well known manufacturer - Wright Whirlwind motor......

  16. #16741
A long shot. The DH.75B Hawk Moth?

  17. #16742
De Havilland argh, never made the connection! Guess the tail fooled me from that angle.

Going to do the honorable thing and go walk 10 paces off a 9 pace plank into the abyss (where I will no doubt be surrounded by a multitude of post-war single engine low wing monoplanes).

  18. #16743
As an online Samaritan, who shudders at prospect of a proud and intelligent man being driven to walking the plank in these circumstances, would it help, Kevin, if I deleted my earlier post and turned the clock back a couple of hours?

  19. #16744
Yippee! I had a feeling this one might spark off some Aerofiles trawling - looks deceptively 'colonial'.....

Anyway, Mike has the baton - we await with trepidation....

  20. #16745
Sorry, but you'll have to trepidate until the morning. It's rugby, pro tem!

  21. #16746
Well you'll be happy now that Les Bleus have finally managed to grind out a win !

  22. #16747
Yes, at least it avoids la cuillère en bois. Now here's a tubby wee fellow - the aeroplane, that is!

  23. #16748
That is the Léger Pataplume, Monsieur

At the risk of being a pedant (moi?), mein herr, might I ask you to say which one? They are significantly different.

  25. #16750
Well, gentlemen, we can't let the grass grow under our feet. It's the Pataplume 1 because, as you'll see from the attached photograph, the Pataplume 2 is a very different beast. Over to Allemagne!
