No takers yet? She's the "bis" version of an italian fighter built around 1923 by a medium sized manufacturer (not as famous as Caproni, Breda or Ansaldo) the name of which starts with a "G"....enough clues I think....
    Cheers

Gabardini G.8bis. But with those clues, BG, you made it too easy for me to take any credit for the identification.

May I ask for your indulgence and patience?
I found recently in an old magazine "Ala d'Italia" (a great achievement of the fascist regime) following pic labeled "Triplanino Breda" (mind you not the relatively well known Breda-Pensuti triplane). Could you resort to your immense knowledge and vast bibliography to dig out some more information about it? Thanks in advance....
    Cheers
    BG

Here is what I have on it. Not sure the exact designation.

Thank you, BG. I'm grateful for your good mood of yesterday!

On a lighter note, here's a little something which, I trust, will provide you all with food for thought.

    Hi PH
Le "Lou Riatou" born in Tunesia around 1948. Conceived by Alfred Huc, (President of l'Aéro-club de Mazamet in Tunisia) together with Charles Guiraud and Andre Raynaud.
I think she survives in the hands of La Musée d’Aviation Legère de la Montagne Noire (APPARAT- Association pour la Préservation de la Patrimoine Aéronautique et la Restauration d'Avions Typiques) at Castres-Mazamet. Registration F-WFKR. Engine initially an Aubier-Dunne and then a Poinsard. AFAIK there were plans to fit a Limbach L1700, but have no idea that this actually happened.

Well done, Walter. She is indeed the Huc-Raynaud-Guiraud 'Lou Riatou' of 1948. I don't suppose that you know of a photograph of its predecessor, the 'Coutouli' (F-PAAJ) of 1939? But in any event, over to you.

    Hi PH
The 1939 aircraft (F-PAAJ) you mentioned is new to me. Never saw a photo.
I do know of F-WFKH of around 1950 and which I understand was known as the CriCoutou (or Coutou CriCri?) by Messrs. Huc, Saissac and Pellissier (Pellisier?) which reportedly had the wings of a prewar Cri-Cri mated to as new design fuselage(?).
An then F-PAAI (F-WAAI) which I understand was named Coutouli and built by the same Huc, Raynaud and Giraud team. Is this aircraft still in existence in the museum?

New challemnge will follow later today.

Take an EDO 4000 float as basis, join the Luscombe wings you had hanging in the barn, fit a C85, et voilà, your own flying float.

  13. #14338
Well thanks to your clues, Walter, I have deduced that this might be the Mitchell Kitalina ?

I think, Walter, that you'll find the answer at http://a.p.p.a.r.a.t.free.fr/autres_machines_147.htm.

    Hi Mike
The Mitchell Kitalina AFB it is. AFAIK there were plans, by new owner at the time, to fit a more powerful engine and PA-38 Tomahawk wings in a mid-wing configuration. However, could not find out this ever took place. The N5577 registration was cancelled in April 2015 at which time she was in the register as the Deakin AFB.

Please go ahead and surprise us.

This looked like a Salon photo so using that as a guide I was able to track it down as the Clement or Clement-Moineau Monoplane Racer. With retractable gear no less!

That looks to me like a Dornier Merkur with some Wal around it.

It's a Dornier all right, but the tail ain't right for a Merkur - and those floats ? Could that be a Do D ?

  23. #14348
Indeed, that must become a Dornier D (with more to come next to it)!
