Thanks Mike & well done on your weight loss.
Here is a shiny one. Bonus points if you can tell us how this plane crashed-
Lockheed XP-38; "In spite of the problems encountered on its first few flights, it was decided to attempt a record transcontinental flight before delivering the XP-38 to the Army at Wright Field. At daybreak on February 11, 1939, Ben Kelsey left March Field destined for Mitchell Field, New York with refuelling stops at Amarillo, Texas and Wright Field, Ohio. On the final leg of the flight, the XP-38 lost power as Kelsey was coming in for a landing at Mitchell Field and crashed on a golf course just short of the runway. Fortunately, Lt. Kelsey was unhurt, but the XP-38 was a total loss.

Let's see if this one will last a bit longer..:

It looks remarkably like one of those Lithuanian Dobkevicius monoplanes, especially with that odd wing. But it ain't.
The odd wing shape is what gave this little racer it's name.. (I think)

No one..?
It's the Martinsyde Semiquaver, that won the 1920 'Fifth aerial derby' at Hendon; it was flown by Frank Courtney at 153.45 mph.

Yikes! I think Ferry is getting some revenge here.
I will go out on a limb and say the new one is French...
Never seen anything like it!
But, er, gentlemen, before we tear our hair out looking for this one, it seems we have yet another mystery-within-a-mystery.
Fascinated by Ferry's Semiquaver, I looked it up. Putnam's 'British Racing & Record-Breaking Aircraft' gives it as a biplane.
Further research produced these.... There are other photos of G-EAPX looking exactly like Ferry's, and the image-selling site mentions two different types under this reg. I suspect it may have been rebuilt at some stage. Anyone enlighten us on this ???
Mystery solved! (thanks to Jackson's British Civil Aircraft)
It was a rebuild. I just love the idea of a mahogany-planked wing - a sort of flying dinner table !
Now back to Ferry's other horror - without much hope, I confess.

How about a Dare "Safety Airplane" of 1927.

Without your hint there was no chance.
Let me see what I can scare up here.
Edit: With Lefty lurking, floaters are never safe...
Well this is a Lublin R-XX, from Poland.
Why yes, yes it is. Have a cola.
Why do I get the feeling you were taking your time on this one! :fishing: Hehe.
Nice hot mug of Bovril, actually.
Another floater. (and I was watching an episode of a TV serial called Foyle's War, including some nice Spit footage.) Had it in my mind that yours was German, for some reason)
Tough to pin this one down. Hope the others are having better luck.
Well-known manufacturer, who picked a weird name for it.
To save time, I can tell you it is not from the United States.
Sporty little number, what ?
Found your racer-
Spent way too much time looking in the French/Italian hangar.
Yup, picture taken seconds before she disappeared under the Solent.
Over to Texas.
(Still no snow here - how about everyone else ?)
Hardly any snow here; just a little bit last night but that's almost melted away by now.
I was looking in the right direction for the Pellet, but must have overlooked it completely as it is on at least two sites I visited...

I have been doing a lot of research lately on the biplane giants. This would be one of those...
Thought the terrain and buildings looked a bit American - right enough - it's an L-W-F Owl.
Does this qualify as a biplane giant ?
