It was just by sheer chance that I guessed the right Aircraft as my knowledge of very old US Airliners is close to zero....Anyway what about this big floating brute?

Looks like a Consolidated P2Y-1 to me..

If correct, I should be delighted to let Daveroo show us his wares !

Yes Lefty it is indeed a Consolidated P2Y-1 (I guess it is one of the few unconverrted ones!) That is an interesting pic it would be fine if somebody could tell us where it was taken (looks like a tropical country, maybe Hawai?).
OK shall we let Daveroo show us his wares?....

Most likely somewhere else... I seem to discern some New Zealand location... New Guinea?... at any rate it does not look like Hawaii... I lived there 10 years...and
have been to all the islands except Lanai... Approposito... dove abita lei in Italia... io ho visuto a Vicenza per 20 anni piu' o meno... andai in pensione nel 84... e

I think this is the machine in question - the dark paint finish was bothering me - this explains it !

    Ciao Gaucho_59 e benvenuto!
    Saluti e a presto

Daveroo, because the regulars on this forum, myself included, are a thoroughly unscrupulous bunch, we normally try to photoshop out the reg markings, or any other giveaways !

Nice little machine, though - don't think it's been here before.

As for the duck's derriere - lovely.

Just to show how thoroughly unscrupulous I am, I did the search on Aerofiles and came up with...

    <center>Taubman

</center> <small>1929: All-American Aircraft Co, 352 Bowery St, Akron OH; S Taubman Aircraft Co, 40 South Howard St, Akron OH. c.1940: Babcock-Vlchek Aircraft Corp, Deland FL. 1941: Acquired by Bartlett Mfg Co, Rosemead CA.</small>

    LC-13 aka Babcock LC-13 and Babcock-Vlchek X Air-master 1931 (ATC 2-389) = 1pOmwM; 75hp Michigan Rover; span: 30'10" length: 20'5" load: 815# v: 100/90/40 range: 300. Triangular fuselage. POP: 2 [X/NC998W, NX18165]. An attempt to the revive the design as Bartlett 3 Zephyr failed with the outbreak of WW2.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, why, if it is a "1P" (one place) does it have TWO of those nifty headrest/fairings??

Is the photo actually of the:Bartlett

<small>1941: Bartlett Aircraft Mfg Co, Rosemead CA.</small>

    LC-13A Zephyr
    aka Blue Zephyr 1946 (ATC 2-389) = 2pCmwM; 150hp Franklin 6A4-150-B3; span: 30'9" length: 21'0" load: 685# v: 150/135/42 range: 500 ceiling: 18,000'. Streamlined, single-strut version of Taubman-Babcock LC-13 from design rights. $3,995; POP: 1 [NX18165].

    Hmmmm?

But how does that account for the confusion in registrations in Aerofiles and the difference of Closed/Open cockpits in the codes??

Nice find and a pretty plane Dave!

For future reference, www.aerofiles.com is the place. Use the "Search" menu choice (read the directions) and also take a look at the Data Codes menu - you can use those-all or in part - in the search with some work (like the one from above: 1pOmwM)

Because if you look elsewhere in Aerofiles, you will find this !

    <small>Babcock-Vlchek X</small><small> [NX20490]</small>
    <small>Babcock LC-13A</small><small> racer [NR998W] (Frank Rezich coll)</small>

LC-13, LC-13A aka Babcock-Vlchek X Airmaster, Taube, and Taubman Zephyr (in 1939 or 1940) (ATC 2-389) 1938 = 2pCmwM; 130hp Franklin 6AC or 120hp Martin 333 (LC-13A); span: 30'10" length: 20'5" v: 150/135/x range: 450. Side-by-side cockpit. POP: uncertain but [NR998W] was modified as OmwM racer. Production halted by the outbreak of WW2. SEE ALSO Bartlett, Taubman. Babcock split from Taubman and moved his own ops to Florida to license-build assault gliders for USAAF in WW2

Dave, you will have many happy hours browsing Aerofiles - join the club ! Over to Rob......

    Hi srgalahad!
Please forgive my ignorance of the english Language but could you explain in plain words what is the meaning of: "let's toss this open....have at it!"
    Thanks for your patience....

    Must be a Canadian colloquialism.

Okay, I will have a toss at it with an easy one...

The fuselage looks more in keeping with a Beaufighter, but cannot find a reference to one with 'cufflinks' (Twin fin & rudders).
