Funny, I was thinking it looks a lot like the Tatra 101 except for the canopy.
Intel i9-13900 Raptor Lake , Be Quiet! Dark rock slim cooler, 32 Gb Corsair DDR5 RAM, MSI Z790 Tomahawk motherboard, Asus RTX 4060Ti 16Gb, Thermaltake 1050 Watt PSU, Windows 11 64-bit 1 m2, 4 SSD, 2 HDD.

Not a Zlin, license built Tatra or anything like that. She is German all the way. This was the last aircraft to come from this smaller company that had been around since the early 1920's. Powered by a Argus.

    We'll go for a Raab-Katzenstein RK-25/32 ??

Probably right Lefty. Dang, and I thought it might be a
Rudolph-Katzenjammer Special (but that one was not
    German). )

I'll have to declare OH - please feel free to post a weirdo, anyone.

(The Rudolph-Katzenjammer bit escapes me - some Transatlantic phenomenon, maybe ???)

    Here's a quickie...

While it may appear easy at first glance, the devil is in the details.

Hid the pic... Let you have it later

Looks like we have had a double open house posting with Wout and srgalahad. We will have to defer to Wout as he posted his photo first. Thanks.

  12. #7612
Well, the wings came from either a PA-12 or PA-18. I'm thinking I've seen this abortion before...somewhere.

    Hi DHC2Pilot :salute:

I have it as the Smith Channel Wing. Developed and built in Alaska by Mr. William M. Smith. It is in JAWA 1985/1986. The use of PA-12 or PA-198 wings is new to me, thanks for the info

May I propose to continue with the srgalahad post?

  14. #7614
Yes indeed - if he posts it again !

It's "later" so here it is againAttachment 75991

Some might say it is a variant of a type, others contend it was enough to warrant a new designation

Some kind of Fokkery-Fairchild mutt built in Canada is my guess.

May you be haunted by the ghost of an irate Robert Noorduyn for using "mutt" in conjunction with the fine products of H. Fokker in north America!

Tis not a "mutt" anyway but a "significant redesign" (not that I'm saying it is a Fokkery Fairchildish creation) and it was not made in Canada - but it did end it's existence here

OK, think I've tracked this one down. Shows in Aerofiles as Fokker F-14A (CF-AUD).

However, in another (Dutch) tome, it is shown as the F-14B. I'm sure Rob will give us chapter and verse !

A hot toddy for the Scot!

    My source says:
"Here's an F.14 with a difference. The "a" model had the wing attached directly to the fuselage, as
opposed to the parasol wing of the F.14. In addition, the pilot's cockpit was moved forward of
the wing. In essence, it was an entirely different aircraft. I would have given it a new type number.
Only one was built and registered (N)X844W It was sold to the McDonald Hotel in 1933 and
became CF-AUD as seen above. CF-AUD was lost in a take-off accident at Edmonton Airport
    on 24 March 1934."

According to Aerofiles (no pictures) the F.14 had a Hornet A (525Hp) the "a" was redesigned as shown in my post and the F.14"b" had the Hornet B (595Hp). No description of the airframe of the "b" but again, only one was made and banished to Costa Rica.

--Wait! It doesn't snow in CR... maybe it was vacation, not banishment

Thanks Rob - toddy welcome - been a damp and chilly day.

Certain members of our wee community are keen on tailless birds - don't recall this one appearing, though.

    Hi Mike :salute:
I open the bidding with the Schapel SA-882 :USA-flag:, which it is probably not.

  24. #7624
Walter, I don't know why you think it's probably not, because it is ! Schapel indeed.

Thanks Mike. Because of the prominent tail/prop I opted for the Schapel. The Bowyer BW-1 would have been my second (and last) bid.

Sorry for the grainy pic. This aircraft is now in a museum (not the airliner)
