Thanks for the info Ferry. Interesting.

    How about a non-descript transport?

  2. #7527
Looks like a type 5000 monoplane mid 1920s

  3. #7528
Not a bad guess Paul. It isn't the Travel Air but was first flown just a year later than the 5000.

  4. #7529
Powered by a license built Pratt and Whitney Hornet radial. The sole example crashed killing the pilot and co-pilot but not before completing several long-distance flights.

  5. #7530
Arado V I of 1927. Open board please-

    This wierd aircraft?

  7. #7532
A fascinating machine indeed - this is the Helmy Aerogypt I, designed by an Egyptian medical student ! I have always liked this one, if only because it is refreshingly different. You have to admire someone who can disappear into the garden shed and emerge with something like this !

Well done! A wee dram for the man! Its a pity that the airframe ended up housing chickens!
    Over to you sir!

    Time for a splash.

Feel like I should know this one. Fuselage has a German look but not sure about the rest.

  11. #7536
    European, but not German.. Easy....

Your guys are far too good for me, but I decided to join in. For a moment I thought it a a Tellier, but after some thinking I'm convinced it isn't a French flying boat as most of them had their engines on top of the wing. I'm sure the struts, position of the engine and tail are the clues.

I think its Italian, so must likely a Macchi and to be more specific a Macchi M.18?

    Cheers,
    Huub

It is very very similar to a Macchi M18...but I wouldn't put my hand on fire....
    Baragouin

Maybe an obscure Bellanger-Denhaut not on Aviafrance?

  15. #7540
It is not French. I have given a pretty strong hint as to its nationality!

LOL. Me too. What are you using?

  21. #7546
Cheap whisky. Doesn't kill 'em immediately but ruins their little livers......

Anyway, back to Moses' flying pancake - the nearest I can find is the Eshelman Flying Flounder, but the pics in you-know-where are a bit distorted and grainy.

I don't know Eshelman's Flying Flounder as suggested by esteemed Lefty....
Could it be instead the Eichmann "Bat I" (1937 - USA ) [NX17638]? I have a pic of this item in a very dilapidated state (the item I mean not the pic).
    Cheers
    Baragouin

I retreat with shame....I just found out that it is Eshelman's "Flying Flounder" and all honours being vented upon Lefty, the winner!

Breakfast is on me- pancakes for everybody. Here is a mug of orange juice for Mike.

Thanks for the OJ, Kevin. (You trying to tell me something ??) Hope you caught the other videos on the same site - Horton Wingless, Custer, etc - the shot of the Flounder landing is a bit scary !

Anyway, here's something a bit different - no prizes for guessing the aircraft, but what is that slung under it, and why ???

Comet intake design testing - possibly Avon type engine as opposed to Ghost? Or even for the M52?
