Am I correct in suggesting the other machines in this scene are Italian ???

  2. #7052
    You are correct Sir.

  3. #7053
Well the others look like Meridionalis, so.......

  4. #7054
    750hp Isotta-Fraschini...

  5. #7055
When I first saw it Poland immediately popped into my head, but trolling has gotten me nowhere

  6. #7056
It's an obscure Italian, just not a Meridionali. This one-off was built for recon duty.

Note the ramp with the grass growing through the cracks. We have seen this particular spot before...

  7. #7057
Well, I'm stumped. When googling 'Italian aircraft manufacturers who couldn't afford weedkiller' I came up with Caproni/Bergamaschi, but beyond that, zilch.

Just to add my feeble voice to this illustrious choir....this lady bears a very very vague resemblance to Breda aircrafts of same age (end twenties/beginning thirties) for instance to Breda A7.
Might Breda be the elusive manufacturer?
    Baragouin

  9. #7059
Not a Breda. Lefty was closer with his guess.

I have this pic in my archives under CA.127, but Wiki shows a much different bird for the 127.
    Blasted Italian prototypes.

    http://www.istituti.vivoscuola.it/ma...ine/CA127.html.
Please see the above to substantiate DHC2Pilot's thread.
It reads translated in crude English:
"This CA127 was manufactured as evolution of CA97 for recce purposes; just one prototype was built. It was built following Caproni's purchase of Monospar production rights."
To sum it up a big mess because Wiki's pic of CA127 is quite different from the above.
The final question is: who is right?
    Baragouin

  12. #7062
If this is the CA.127, it certainly looks nothing like the single engined CA.97, and even less like the 3-engine CA.97. Personally I don't think the mystery 127 could possibly be an 'evolution' of it. Wiki's 127 looks somewhat like the 97 except for the tapered wing, landing gear strut arrangement, and the shape of the stab. :isadizzy: And all the while Kevin is sitting at his desk, in hand, laughing at our futile attempts to put a name to this enigma.

EDIT: Some supporting evidence from the Secret Projects Site: Ca.127 - high-wing monoplane recce aircraft, 1 x x 750hp Isotta-Fraschini
I'd believe that over Wiki any day of the week.

  13. #7063
First of all, a to John for the Ca.127. BTW- I would never laugh unless it was one of my April fools day specials or some such.

Baragouin- Thanks for the link. The photo I had came from Aeroplani Caproni by Apostolo, Abate & Alegi.

The wiki entry is showing the Ca.146, not the 127!

  14. #7064
    Nice one, Kevin.

But if you have the definitive book, why were you 'not 100% sure of the designation' ????

And can anyone correct the Wikipedia entry ?

In most cases, yes. Top right corner by the search box there should be 3 tabs (Read, Edit, View History) and if the Edit is available, a click should bring up the entry page with a message that says the entry is editable.

That's the simple answer. Regarding rules, references, rebuttals -- I never read that far

It's the good and bad of Wiki.. it is "open" but also why it sometimes contains crap

Don't have the book Mike. Was getting the info second hand.

  22. #7072
Hmm, had a look at prices and don't think I'll be getting that book either !

Here's a nice easy one to tempt some of our less frequent visitors. Don't think it has featured here before.
