ag-plane (well it was tested as such, but never entered production). The baseline type was built in numbers and (I think) is still available, but looks somewhat different.

    srgalahad, excellent!!

It is indeed a version of the L-13 Vivat and designated XL-113. It initially flew with a 65hp Walter Mikron 4-III, but in the picture (circa 1986) it is fitted with an experimental Tatra AT-714 engine. Around 2000 the XL-113 received a Rotax 912 and the hopper was removed.

    Your turn please!

Well, well ... I didn't really expect that. On the other hand the Blanik fin/rudder is unmistakable (I have stick time in two..). As far as "still available", one source i have says the Vivat ended prod. in the 1990's but another implies one can still purchase.

Ahhh.. grain/blur but it's not of MY doing -extra points if you can tell me WHERE the a/c was located.

Wow! The legendary D-2. Until now, I have seen only a drawing of it and a photo of it's wooden hangar at Harpers Dry Lake in California. The lack of puplished photos and the alleged cause of the D-2's destruction make it an authentic mystery plane. Thanks for posting those photos Srgalahad.

    for Mike for the D-2

and :ernae: to H for the Harpers reference (imagine the cost of an air conditioned hangar in the Mojave Desert in the 1940's!)

It is an uncommon occurrence for a Scotsman to decline a refreshment , but on this occasion, Rob, I have to declare that it was Ferry who posted the right answer !

The mystery Hughes has lurked in these columns before, methinks.......a long, long time ago.

Edit: Gosh, Ferry posted this one recently and it still didn't ring a bell!

Yes, I've been coming up a day late and a dollar short on the last batch of mysteries. I was convinced the latest one was from Poland. Short sightedness abounds in Algonquin as of late.
