Svenska Aero SA-10?
Yessir. The Pirate indeed. Pint of grog .
D'oh!
I think it was posted here before the last major crash, even with the Latvian swastika markings still on it in an attempt to confuse us..

Looks like a Georges Lévy HB2 somewhere in the Congo ??
I thought it was a Macchi M. 3
Dave
It is on the Congo and is an effort from Mr. Levy. Silly to think Lefty would not know this one. I also have it as a Levy-Le Pen Type R.
'Tis the same machine, I think - different designations for the military (French, Finnish, Portuguese) and civilian applications.
I don't think the Finns were in the Congo, but the Belgian airline S.N.E.T.A. operated a service from Kinshasa-Stanleyville.
OH, please..
I have something interesting; an extra if you can name the pilot too!

17 views and no response for almost an entire day? Either it's too easy, too difficult or everyone but me is on holiday..
Small hint: Only two built.

Hello Ferry,
It appears to be a S.P.A.D. or Bleriot/S.P.A.D. but I can't pin down the exact model. It looks like it may have been used in racing. A beautiful airplane.
You are getting very close, Hurricane!

SPAD 15/5 flown by Nungesser.
Right on the aircraft, wrong on the pilot Mike; this blue SPAD 15/5 'Baby' was flown by René Fonck, the French 'Ace of Aces' and photographed during his visit to the ELTA in 1919.
The other one built was indeed owned by Nungesser.
Here's Fonck in front of his aircraft which carried the #6 for the ELTA race.

I think they were in identical livery - anyway, the morally goes to John who set me on the right track with SPAD - I was wasting a lot of time looking for Yankee birds.....
Over to Kansas !
Not sure if they were identical, I do know Fonck's plane was mostly dark blue. Of course I editted out the 'RF' logo on the tail!

Here's Nungesser's - aprt from the insignia, and the pale headrest fairing, they look pretty much a pair - without, of course, the benefit of colour photography !
OK, how about this floating organ gallery ?
Lefty, what are those paddle thingys on the wings?
According to the description I have, they are 'auxiliary trimming planes'. Exactly.
This may be the Lioré et Olivier LeO H-24<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Dave
My references show the H.24 as a 4-engine (dual push/pull configuration) ..... actually this pic (below)
is of the H.24-2 or H.242 as it's sometimes called. There was also the larger H.24-6 or H.246 which had 4 tractor engines.
Actually, John, I think Dave is correct - this is the H-24. (The prototype was actually designated H-240)
The 242's were all 4-engined jobs - the 24-6 a quite different machine.
This from Gérard Hartmann's 'Lioré et Olivier' - the definitive tome.
Over to Canadia.
