Thread: The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

This is your friendly newspaper delivery van !

It is, I think, a Heinkel He40 belonging to Ullstein AG, publishers of 'Berliner Zeitung am Mittag'. The chevron livery was the giveaway.

Is that a dolly or an overlarge double tailwheel/

  3. #428
It's the tailwheel unit. Several German types (AEG, Friedrichshafen, etc) had similar units. Don't know why.

It has also always intrigued me that many of the tricycle gear WWII Germans had huge nosewheels (Me262, He219, for example) when no other country did. Something to do with grass strips, perhaps.

  4. #429
    Yup that's it. for Lefty.

Knew I should have posted the unpainted version!

  5. #430
Morning, Kevin. Thanks for the beer.

Now then, what's this angular warrior ?

No pulling the wool over your eyes. A single finned version of the Mitchell for Moses. Methinks that might be the last of the US mysteries I'll post:d

  11. #436
Thanks sandar. Just happened to know that one pretty well.

Any guesses on this ambulance special?

No idea but how exactly are you supposed to taxi it?

  13. #438
    Maybe a Guillemin J.G.40 ??

  14. #439
Good question James. Must have been dodgy at best.

Thought this one would last a bit longer. Well done Mike! Over to you.

  15. #440
Taxiing never seemed to be a big issue in those days. Lindbergh didn't exactly have a great view !

Lucky hit on the Gullemin, although that tall tail was a good lead.

    Here's a nice easy one.

Northrop YA-9, the aircraft that lost the competition against the A-10 Thunderbolt.

They probably picked the A-10 over the A-9 because the Warthog actually looks intimidating.. :d

Ferry is probably counting sheep at this hour so I will go ahead and post the next one.

Sorry about the picture quality. The tail kind of fades out but that is the least of your worries...

Thanks for the early morning ale Sir.

Despite the fabulous photography, this one is not from Eastern Europe...

  23. #448
No, just down the road from Ferry - it is a Belgian SABCA S.2

This is not Belgian ,and a bit more modern
