Thread: Sometimes FS makes you go wow....

When it comes to military jet aircraft, my preference is for the older birds....Vietnam era....60s and 70s. This goes world wide....Russian, French, American, British.....I like the jets from the Cold War era basically. Currently working on the freeware Alphasim F-105 Thunderchiefs. Have paint templates done, working on paints, have the MDL files tweaked, new effects in place. The planes are looking much better. Was just testing out an improved version of one of my new paints and had a couple WOW screenies that I wanted to share.

    A little Chinese...

For me, the Wow here is to be able to drop in a few bits, and have a rendition of places you've never even heard of, right there in the sim:
Dehong Mangshi Airport ZPMS, Western China.

The other night, I went for my first "long" helo flight. It was just over 60 miles....and in a helo, that is a LONG challenging flight. Helo of choice was the freeware Alphasim Hughes 500 with a new skin I have been putting together for it. Starting point was Concrete Municipal in Washington state to some tiny little grass strip place that I picked out on the GPS when my hand and wrist got tired from flying the 500 over mountains in strong shifting winds. The scenery was amazing and the view through the glass nose of the 500 made it very easy to see.

AP wouldn't have worked on that flight. Most of the time, I was just above the tree tops and adjusting altitude to match the terrain. The pic I posted was taken just after I flew over the top of a ridge line. Once I took the screenshot, I nosed down into a power dive, followed the curvature of the backside of the slope and returned to tree top level flying.

The autopilot is nice but that, helitrim DOT zip, is the all round thing to have for all general helo flying. Takes the tension out of the stick on helos and makes them very pleasurable to fly, especially on long cross country trips and makes hovering a lot less tentious too.

Of coarse with the autopilot you can sit in the back seat and enjoy the views on a trip while your pilot flys the helo.

What Dauntless is in the first screen shot? Too detailed to be the CFS2 one, has a prop so it's not the freeware Alphasim one, engine cowl is correctly rolled in so it's not the FDG2 one. I have been looking for a really nice Dauntless for FS9 for a while.
