I w hatas wondering if anyone knows of a version of a overhauled USS Esswx 1950. She was placed in decommission at the end of WW2. She was overhauled and received a new flight deck and streamlined superstructure and recommissioned in time for service in Korea. Just wondering if there is one available or have to go with the 1945 version.

From Jan 1951 to Jul 1955 she was a straight deck, modernized like many of her sisters in the class. After that, she was rebuilt with an angle deck.

1951 - 1955, she probably was very similar to other ESSEX Class used in Korea. Hull numbering mod of an existing model via texture may be your answer

Thanks for the reply. I had already did some research and knew she was decom. For awhile. In the Navy sometimes when a ship is to undergo some extensive FRAMing it will be temp. decommiosioned.
According to ship records she received a new flight deck and streamlined island with closed command bridges As you stated it was later for the angle deck.
Here is a site that sprcifies some changes https://www.globalsecurity.org/milit.../cv-9-mods.htm
Here is a pic of the streamlined superstructure ! https://www.globalsecurity.org/jhtml...-341950.jpg|||

Notice the 5" gunmounts are removed from the FD.

My problem is the tex change for the hull designation but it looks like these Korean War ships may need some revision. Beyond my capabilities.

Found some 1950 photos of the Essex while doing the line in Korea. These show the mods done.
