So I've been working on improving the old SBX Jap troops for some time now. I thought I could improve the texture, & was disappointed with how quickly they became sticks as you moved away from them.
Using GMax I was able to tweak some of the texture mapping around the feet, & changed the model size (they were measuring only 1.3mtrs tall!). By adding some extra LODs & fiddling with the LOD numbers I was able to get an improved appearance at a distance, without any appreciable hit to frame rates.
Whilst doing this I came across the idea of changing the headgear & texture callouts to create other nation's troop sets. So it became a much larger project ...
