5 JBK Short Empire Flying Boats released by UT!

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: BK Short S23 Empire for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a conversion of Jens B. Kristensen's Short S23 Empire Flying Boat for CFS 2. Due to the complex nature of the revision this is uploaded as a complete aircraft, but the design credits lie with all of the various creators, mainly Jens B. Kristensen.

This package represents the early shorter-ranged S23 Empire, with an endurance of 5 - 5.5 hours, & the airfile reflects this.

The original model has been converted for use in CFS 2, with g_lightstates & crashchecks removed, so will work in both Free Flight and Quick Combat. Both glossy & dull mdls are supplied to better depict the polished alum & later camouflage painted finished used by these aircaraft.

A new airfile has been developed, & the dp file also has been developed with more visible damage effects.

    The textures supplied are:

G-ADUW "Castor" of Imperial Airways, circa February 1937

A18-10 "Centaurus" was impressed for the RAAF in September 1939 & this is how she looked during that first winter of the war.

G-AEUC "Corinna" of BOAC. She flew the last evacuation flight out of Singapore, 4th February 1942. This is how she probably looked around that time.

The 2D panel bitmap has been made WIN 7+ friendly.

Sounds are not included, instead being aliased to the stock B24D Liberator. This is to keep the size of the download manageable. My recommendation is to use the sound files from Shessi's Sunderland.

The dp file makes use of kelticheart's exhaust effects.

Water Spray effects are also included. These are a tweaked & developed version of one of Bill Kestell's excellent waterspray effects, respositioned to fit the Short Empire hull & floats & renamed.

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

    Thanks to

Jens B. Kristensen for a great aircraft
Allen for the inspiration for the fixed window views
Allen for his DOSmdlc_2, making shine & mdl size changes possible in WIN7+
Martin Wright for so many useful tools, in this case in particular MDLmat allowing aircraft model material transparency & colour changes
Kelticheart for his exhaust effects, & inspiration for the propeller bitmaps
Shessi for use of the Sunderland panels & gauges

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions

    Weps for Empire - "depth_bomb"

    I can't find it............
And I've looked too, but I cannot find Shessi's "depth_bomb". Found wep_sml_cargo_boxes, and wep_br_carrier2l and wep_br_carrier2r. The only Shessi weapons I've found for the Sunderland Mk1 are....."wep_sund_bomb" and "wep_sund_depth". Can someone point me in the right direction?

  12. #12
    Worthless,

The Depth Bombs are from Shessi's early mk1Sunderland, from May 2017. It contains "new" depth bomb weapons.

Thanks! UT. I figured it was somewhere, but there are so many weapons packs I was just going blind trying to find it.

Wow! Thanks very much for all of these UT.

We may need a few more flying boat bases across the empire. I suppose I should do Rose Bay in Sydney.

    Hi Everybody ,

I love the Short Empire Boats , but where in hell are wep_sml_cargo_boxes .

I've searched everywhere but can't find them for the life of me !!!

Obviously KRAFT disease has kicked in again !!!

Any help would be great !!
    Thanks to all in advance,

The original file called FDG2_cargo.zip has gone walkabout from the library.

But I believe that the files you seek can be found in AW38_WhitleyVb_UT.zip - do a search for that filename.

  21. #21

    Correct

I searched using "AW38 Whitley MkVb Freighter".
According to his note...UT resized the FDG C-47 cargo crate to make it fit in the Whitley and gave it a new name (sml_cargo_boxes)

My earlier report was incorrect - the file is still here but my Win7 / IE11 download facility mistakenly reports the file as "missing or deleted". Changing the file extension to either .7z or .rar allows the file to be downloaded and opened, after which the extension can be changed back to .zip.
