    Project: Caudron R.11 heavy fighter

    Hello Folks!

The Caudron R.11 was a rather interesting French twin-engined biplane bomber/heavy
fighter that came out late in 1917, designed 3 years earlier to substitute the
    Caudron G.4.

Although it was initially used as a night bomber, its 265 lb bombload soon proved too modest for the time, its performance was remarkable (120 mph at S.L. and 821 fpm initial RoC), so the R.11 was used extensively as a bomber escort. Armed with 5 MG´s it flew circles around Berguet 14 bomber formations, defending them like a guard dog.

370 units were built. Power was two Hispano-Suiza 8Bda water-cooled V8 engines, delivering 220 Hp at 2100 RPM, with 8.17 ft wooden 18.47 degree fixed-pitch props that had a 0.75 reduction gear (1.34:1) and ran at 1556 RPM. Engine and propeller performance in the .air file comes quite close, which is rather pleasing.

This CFS1 version with crew and MG´s is coming along quite nicely, and I still have to put in the vbentral gun, eliminate a few cockpit bleeds, do the panel, put the registration number on the tailfin, and SCASM the virtual cockpit view.

    Here are a few screenshots!

    Hello arfyhun, hello Hertzie,

Thank you for your enthusiastic support! Let´s see how it goes.
At the moment I´m sorting out bleeds in the nose gunner area.
Slowly but surely, as they say!

    Hello Folks,

I had a bug with the tailplane wires that weren´t showing, and I improved
some exhaust bleeds I was getting, textures are improving, and the SCASM
error has disappeared despite the 149.6% Parts Count, which is all satisfying.

There will be two flight plans, one as a Bomber, with 4x66 lb bombs and 5x425
rounds for each of the 5 MG´s, and another as Bomber Escort fFighter, with
1275 rounds per MG and no bombs.

    No long to go now!
    Cheers,
    Aleatorylamp

Progress update and no problem SCASMing Virtual Cockpit

    Hello All,

The textures are more cleaned up now. Here are some pics of the updated model.

I´m just checking the gauge distribution for the panel. Apparently there wasn´t
much except for RPM, fuel pressure and water temperature, but it should at least
have a turn-coordinator and a compass, I´d say, and I´ll put in a bombsight as well.

    Cheers,
    Aleatorylamp

    Caudron R.11 Uploaded

    Hello Folks,

I have just uploaded the Caudron R.11 escort fighter/bomber, which will be available
as soon as it is approved by warbirds library:

    http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=19&id=27680

A bomb run can be effected at 115 mph, at altitudes of 3000, 5000 and 10000 ft as
per the scale shown on the Bomb Aimer´s panel. The panel works in map-view with default Zoom.

Here two screenshots releasing a bomb at 5000 ft and scoring the hit, as well as three
    more screenshots for eye-candy!

I hope you enjoy the aircraft! Do let me know if anything is amiss.
    Cheers,
    Aleatorylamp

Thanks Stephan for this lovely bird, I read on a french web site that a R11 was challenged by a SPAD pilot for a friendly fight, the SPAD saw the Caudron behind her tail after several minutes, totally surprised

    Keep on this way, cheers
    Martin

    Hello Graham and Martin,

I´m glad you like this Gunbus, and I´m quite surprised at the
    acclaim this aircraft has caused.

I´m also very pleased at the virtually bleed-free way it comes
through in CFS1, and, as Martin says, it was quite a performer
    for its size too!

It is the perfect candidate to be flown in conjunction with the
    Tailgunner2 addon.

Thank you very much for your good words!

    Cheers,
    Aleatorylamp
