    Backcountry Flying

    Hi guys,
I’ve been reading and studying and viewing a lot lately (since I'm pensioned and we're all mostly at home due to COVID) and returned to mud moving again. But this time I’m focusing on Backcountry Flying. I can’t thank Ed Wells enough for his excellent tutorial about scenery building. He's been a great inspiration to undertake this.
I’ve set a goal to do these strips:
    Bernard U54
    Flying B Ranch 12ID
    Lower Loon Creek ID67
    Upper Loon Creek U72
    Thomas Creek 2U8
    Stibnite ID41
I'll post screenies in this thread about the progress.

    Fantastic news!!!
    Many thanks Cees...
    Cheers,

I share your enthusiasm for the back-country strips, but I don't have any experience in scenery creation. The elevation issues that Ed has mentioned were unfortunately a problem for me, apparently because I still use the stock FSX ground textures. Only his "Big Creek" worked without problems. Let us know how you deal with those issues.

Awesome Cees! I decided to do one more (Moose Creek_1U1).

I think the most elaborate strip will be Stibnite. Adjacent to the airfield are some buildings and structures that are only visble from above so I’ll have to guess what these are and what they look like. ]
I felt that the standard filler objects didn’t cut it for me so I made some custom objects.
And I also had to conjecture what the structures look like! (WIP!)

Nice job Cees. That's quite an Airstrip and the autogen looks great. What program are you using to place your objects? You've hit on the same problem I have when doing scenery, "What do those buildings actually look like?" I try viewing videos of aircraft landing at the airport. . .sometimes I can stop frame and take a screen of buildings or if I'm lucky, find some good references online. Most times it's obvious that Pilots are only concerned with pics of their airplanes and not the airport buildings, lol. . .imagine that.

Thanks Ed. I use ADE for the placing of my objects.

I uploaded a first batch to the library. This is part 1 of a series of airstrips in Idaho for FSX.
    The airstrips are:

    1. Bernard USFS U54
    2. Lower Loon Creek ID67
    3. Mahoney Creek USFS 0U3
    4. Stibnite ID41
    5. Thomas Creek 2U8

There will be more. Hope you like it. I have done no seasonal textures. Maybe in the future.

    Happy Flying!

Thanks for doing these Cees. They are a good complement to the more wooded strips that Ed has created. After many years of simming, this back-country theme is a new dimension for me. It certainly fills some Covid-era down time.

Reading this thread, and seeing these great screenshots, makes me want to get back to the roots.

    Will these sceneries work in P3D 4.5 and/or 5.1?

You'll know it if you try, I don't know!

And Ed: thanks for the compliment! And the inspiration! And the help!

    """Will these sceneries work in P3D 4.5 and/or 5.1?"""

I tried them in P3D 4.5 - sceneries work but you have to delete/deactivate the corresponding files in Orbx CRM, if you got them.
