    scenery bgl file names

    Hi all
I recently installed some older french sceneries for nostalgic reasons.
They all have a directory often called "geo(modif)" or similar, which obiviously entails scenery files.
The file names often have extensions like *_2.bgl, *_3.bgl, *_5.bgl or *_9.bgl.
I am not sure, but think to remember that each extension refers a specific topic like mesh, landclass, river, road, etc.
If this is right, could anybody explain which extension belongs to what?

    Thank you

These are bgl nomenclature used by Ground2K by Christian Fumey.

I still use this for CFS2 scenery, but IRC the suffixes mean...

    _2 Land/Watermask
    _3 LWM polys
    _7 VTP1 polys
    _8 VTP1 lines

Maybe the others are for VTP2 polys & lines (used in FS9)?

I just saw on french sites, that some Geomodif *_9.bgl named files were used for roads, other for coastlines and rivers. Best you delete some of such files and see what happens. They certainly reposition landmarks.

The suffix numbers don't really mean anything.

There is no numbering convention in fs9. All it means is the original creator labelled them that way.

The only way to know what each bgl does, is to decompile
it and read the resulting xml file.

Like Pete said, Its up to the individual designer how the bgl's are number'd, there's no rhyme or reason. I sometimes use MDLconX to check BGL's for objects and missing texture's
